The public can come and view the decor provided by our caterers, 6pm-7pmCT on that same day. Chamber Names Outstanding Members for 2013

Adair County School Superintendent Alan W. Reed was named Educator of the Year at tonight's Columbia/Adair County Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet, held tonight at the Roberta D. Cranmer Dining Center, 430 Helen Flatt Drive, Columbia, KY. He was introduced by Mike Harris of the law firm of Harris & Harris Law firm. Other winners this year are:
  • Employee of the Year: Stanley Rich, Jeffries Hardware. He was introduced by Leon Lewis.

  • Outstanding Agriculturalist: Charles Barnes, introduced by Nick Roy, Adair County Extension Agent.

  • Outstanding volunteer: Jennifer Smith, who was introduced by Dr. Ron Rogers.

  • Outstanding business person of the year: Eddie Franklin, introduced by Roger Meadows.

  • Outstanding business: Holmes Bend Marina, accepted by David Louis Butler, the owner. Pam Hancock of McDonald's of Columbia introduced Mr. Butler.

  • Outstanding business woman: Barbara Bryant Hancock, CPA, who was introduced by Sue Stivers.
The keynote speaker was Jamie Comer, Kentucky Commissioner of Agriculture. The crowd packed the hall; 250 plus were present.

The food was fantastic: Roast Beef and Baked Chicken. The roasted red potatoes, corn pudding, green beans, rolls and beautiful salads and desserts.

Special Music by the Massie Sisters, who were outstanding.

Marie L. Scott Buck, Casey Co., KY (1932-2013)

She was a native of Casey County, KY. She was the widow of Kirby Buck. She leaves 24 direct living descendants. She was a homemaker and member of the Lighthouse Tabernacle Church in Knifley, Adair County, KY. Marie was an avid quilter.

A Guest on Earth: The Life and Poetry of Joy Bale Boone, Kentucky Poet Laureate 1997-1999 is told in Joy's own words and includes comments by family and friends, photographs and over fifty of her poems, some never before published.

There are people willing to do small home repairs and help to clean up your yard. Do you need to learn how better to manage your food dollars? There is a class on couponing.

KSP Drug enforcement makes Bowling Green arrests

Four individuals from Lexington arrested on various charges including prostitution and/or promoting prostitution; lodged in Warren County, KY Jail

The Kentucky State Police DESI-West, Post 3, and the Bowling Green/Warren County Drug Task Force located a prositution ring which was work out of a local hotel and arrested four individuals, who were lodged in the Warren County Jail.

Arrested in the Friday, April 12, 2013 action, were Patience H. Parris, charged with prostitution; Brittany McCoy, Courtney M. Bryant, and Elrico Hymon, all charged with promoting prostitution. All four were from Lexington.

$3,300 in U.S. Currency was seized.

All four were charged wtih possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.

Adair Heritage Association

Judge Executive, Ann Melton, met with members of the Adair Heritage Association recently to discuss progress and planning for the historic Adair County Courthouse. The Association has met with the Judge Executive and the Mayor to begin work on a strategic plan that can be utilized for planning and grant purposes.

The Adair Heritage Association meets the second Thursday of each month at the Library at 6pmCT. All members and anyone interested in preserving our historical heritage are invited to attend. Columbia Rotary will hold its annual radio auction 6pm-9pmCT, Monday, April 29 and Tuesday April 30, 2013.. The auction will be simulcast on radio stations WAIN (93.5) and the WAVE, WHVE (92.7).

The auction has consistently raised thousands of dollars for scholarships for Adair High School students attending Lindsey Wilson College and other local Rotary service projects. Last year's auction raised over $7,000.

This Boil Water Advisory lifted: CAUD Boil Water Advisory lifted, Cedar Grove RD area, Wednesday, April 17, 2013

A BOIL WATER ADVISORY is in effect for consumers of Columbia Adair Utilities District for customers on
Cedar Grove Road, Dick Grant Road, Becam Rogers Road, Brockman-Keltner Road, Meyer Road and New Cedar Grove Road.
The advisory has been issued due to a main line leak. Following such an event, the potential exists for bacteriological contamination of the water supply therefore this Boil Water Advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure. Until further notice, boil all water used for drinking and cooking, bringing the water to a rolling boil for three minutes before using. This advisory will remain in effect until the situation has been corrected and test results have shown the water to be of an acceptable quality. For more information concerning the Boil Water Advisory, contact Lennon Stone at Columbia Adair Utilities District, 270-384-2181.

Followup: This town never fails to respond

The extraordinary tradition of Giving, The Adair County Way, has a long, long history of coming to the aid of those in need. A story carried yesterday, April 15, 2013, only told about two thirds of the final impact.

A quick followup:

An article in the April 9, 1913 News reported that in addition to the original sum raised on the evening of March 30th for relief in the flood stricken states, more donations came in on Monday morning, March 31, swelling the amount sent to Red Cross to $131.87. On top of that, Columbia Lodge No. 230 of the I.O.O.F. raised $10.50 for the cause, bringing the overall total to $142.37, equal in buying power to approximately $3,250 in today's dollars. - JIM

RINEYVILLE, KY - On Sunday, April 14, 2013 at approximately 5:13amET, Tpr. Anthony Hardin responded to an injury crash near the 1051 block of Rineyville School Road.

Upon his arrival Tpr. Hardin discovered the driver, Justin Claxton, 21, from Hastings, Florida was unconscious and unresponsive.
