Friendly Shih Tzu shows up on Rocky Hill Road, Columbia, KY

A very friendly short haired female Shih Tzu has showed up at my house here in Columbia on Rocky Hill Road out toward Pelham Branch. She is white and grey in color and it appears she has had puppies at sometime. If she belongs to anyone they can call 270-250-3896. I will not tie her up, but she doesn't seem to wanna leave. Dorothy Nash Gibson, formerly of Adair Co., KY (d. May 3, 2012)

Mrs. Dorothy Nash Gibson, 92, of Rockland, Maine, died May 3, 2012 at Windward Gardens Assisted Living Facility in Camden, Maine.

She was the daughter of the late Lee and Lola Fisher Nash and a former resident of the Holmes Bend area of Adair County. She retired from the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago, Illinois, then lived for several years in Scotland before relocating to Rockland, Maine

Her husband, Robert F. Gibson, preceded her in death in March, 2012. She left no direct living descendants but several cousins and friends remain to cherish her memory.

No services are planned.

Elean Brown, 84, Hwy 619, Russell Springs, KY, died May 6, 2018, at her home in Russell Springs, KY.

Funeral services will be at 11amCT, Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel, 367 Main Street, Russell Springs, KY, with Bro. Gary Wisdom the officiating clergy. Visitation will be after 5pmCT, Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lucenda Cemetery.

Driver charged after hitting Bomar Heights house, driving off

News from the Columbia, KY, Police Department

On Sunday, May 6, 2012, the Columbia Police Department responded to a call at 401 Bomar Heights where a vehicle had struck a house and drove off. Officers located the vehicle on Akin Street. The driver Robert Neher, of Columbia, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident, failure to maintain insurance, and operating motor vehicle under the influence aggravating circumstances and lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail by Sergeant Jr. Murphy.

Injury accident occurs at KY 61 and Bypass, Friday, May 4, 2012

News from the Columbia, KY Police Department

On Friday, May 4, 2012 at approximately 2:20pmCT, the Columbia Police Department responded to an injury accident at the KY 61 and Bypass intersection.

The accident occurred when a white 1996 Ford pick-up being operated by Phillip Eller, 25, of Albany, KY, was traveling south on the bypass and failed to stop for a red light, striking a 2006 Dodge van being operated by Linda Hourigan, 70, of Springfield, KY, who was traveling on North KY 61.

A passenger in the Eller vehicle, Joshua Mynear, 25, of Albany, was ejected from the vehicle. All occupants were transported to Westlake Regional Hospital. Mynear was airlifted to the University of Louisville and a passenger in the Hourigan vehicle, Mariah Hourigan, 18, of Springfield, KY, was transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center. The accident was investigated by CPD police officer Jamie Cole and was assisted by officer Bruce McCloud.

Campbellsville businessman Gary Milby, receives 240 month sentence

The following press release was issued by the Office of the United States Attorney Eastern District of Kentucky. The Kentucky Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) assisted in the investigation. The Office of the U.S. Attorney is prosecuting the case.

LEXINGTON - A Campbellsville business man who defrauded hundreds of people out of millions of dollars as part of a nationwide and international investment scam, was sentenced Friday, May 4, 2012, to 240 months in prison.

U.S. District Court Judge Karen Caldwell sentenced 58-year-old Gary M. Milby for mail fraud, wire fraud and securities fraud. Judge Caldwell also ordered Milby and codefendant Bryan S. Coffman to pay full restitution in excess of $36 million.

ACHS Seniors Score Proficient on Technology Literacy Assessment

ACHS seniors, for the third consecutive year, have scored Proficient on the 21st Century Skills Assessment. This online assessment uses both interactive and multiple choice questions to gauge students' knowledge of technology. Kentucky schools are required to report to the Kentucky Department of Education the number of students who are technology literate in grades 8 and 12. Adair County Schools assess students in grade 6, as well.

Adair students wrapping up year with more rigorous KY tests

Gone is the Commonwealth Accountability Testing System, better known as CATS. Testing now in second week. The tests are tough. Commissioner Terry Holliday warns parents to expect sharp dip in scores - but it's the standards changing. Instructional Supervisor Phyllis Curry expects scores back in September 2012. Superintendent Treece has faith Adair teachers are rising to occasion, as they've done before.
