Beginner Gardener Program to start in January 2012

The Adair County Cooperative Extension Service will be offering an educational program beginning in January 2012 for those who are new to gardening or who are looking to expand their knowledge of gardening. This program will emphasize the basic principles of gardening including site selection, soil preparation, pest management, when & what to plant, harvesting, and food preservation.

A total of 5 sessions will be held, with each session to be held at the Adair County Extension Office and will begin at 6pmCT. Each session will last approximately 2 hours. Classes will be taught by Extension Agents and Master Gardener volunteers.
  • Session 1- January 24, 2012: Site Selection & Soil Preparation
  • Session 2- February 28, 2012: Spring Growing Season & Pest Control
  • Session 3- May 29, 2012: Summer Growing Season & Pest Control
  • Session 4- July 2012: Harvesting & Storing
  • Session 5 - August: 2012: Fall Growing Season & Field Trip
Participation is free but participants must register by January 20, 2011 . Class size is limited. Each participant will receive a free soil test, a site visit, individual consultation during the growing season, and University of Kentucky research based materials. On behalf of the Salvation Army Service Unit of Adair County:

The generosity of Adair County citizens is ever present and at Christmas time this kindness is magnified.

Because of your support, The Salvation Army Service Unit of Adair County was able to provide Christmas gifts to over 300 Adair County children through the Angel Tree Program.The need in our community is great and we are so blessed to have individuals and groups that respond to that need with Christian love and compassion.

Thank you to each person who processed applications, purchased gifts and made donations. We appreciate all who sorted and distributed gifts or who assisted in other ways to make a child's Christmas more joyful. We invite any interested person to join our local service unit. Meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month at 9amCT in the basement of the Adair County Courthouse Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY.

Campbellsville Police investigating criminal mischief at plant

Two white male juveniles seen leaving the property are sought in connection with spray painting of racial slurs and hate messages on products, including cupola and church steeples, at Campbellsville Industries

The Campbellsville Police Department,, Sunday, December 18, 2011, responded to a Burglary and Criminal Mischief at Campbellsville Industries, 440 Taylor Blvd, Campbellsville, KY and during an investigation graffiti was discovered on many products including cupola and church steeples. Hate messages and racial slurs were also spray painted inside and outside of the building.At approximately 3:30pmET/2:30pmCT an employee saw two white male juveniles inside the fence on the property. The juveniles fled from the property. They were described as wearing a blue jacket and brown shirt.

Anyone with information regarding this crime should call the Campbellsville Police Department at 270-465-4122. Agencies Involved were Campbellsville Police Department and Taylor County Sheriff's Department Investigating Officers: are Travis Begley and Ryan Jewell.
