Lost Bird Dog: Does it belong to you

2010-11-29 - Photo From Heather Shepard. Adair Co., KY
"I found a bird dog (hunting dog) at my house and I'm sure it just got away from the owner, but it doesn't have a collar so I'm not sure who it belongs to," writes Heather Shepard. "It came here a few weeks ago but then disappeared and it usually shows up when people are hunting down from my house. It's been here for two days. Maybe the owner will see it or someone who knows who the dog belongs to and they can come get it," -Heather Shepard.

Finally: What a Chemical Fire Apparatus is/was revealed

About: When a Dalmatian was de facto Mayor of The Sprangs and Columbia's 'Chemical Fire Apparatus'

By "Jim"
Revelation of Eureka moment from online delvinations of indefatigable researcher

More information has surfaced about the Columbia chemical fire truck, 1921

After a considerable amount of headscratching about exactly what constituted a "chemical fire apparatus," a great revelation occurred -- search engines are my friends. A few minutes' searching provided the answer: a chemical reaction -- and hence the name -- provided the pressure required to move the water from the tanks through the hose and to the blaze.

Kentucky Color: First Frost Flowers Nov. 28, 2010

These are in Cumberland Co., KY. Indefatigable Frost Flower quester still hasn't found them in Adair Co., KY, but there's a surprise for him today from another, Adair Co. Frost Flower researcher - more on that later.
Click on headline for story plus new installment of frost flower photos.

By Billy Joe Fudge, Retired District Forester
Kentucky Division of Forestry

Amandaville, KY, 11:23amCT, Sunday, November 28, 2010 - It seems that the frost flowers are blooming early this year. Although the definition and form of these early blooms may not be the quality of last year, the size is greatly increased. However the photos from last year had brilliant sunshine and today the fog greatly inhibited my attempts to increase the definition.

I have searched high and low for Adair County Frost Flowers but to no avail, although these were less than a half mile from Adair County right beside Hwy 704 at Hopewell Acres, the Chowning place this morning.

Middleburg photo a trip down memory lane

Sheila Elliott writes:
The old Farmers Deposit Bank building is a structure that has played a large part in our family.

My husband's family served as officers of that bank from the early 1900s up through 2006. Jason Coffey, my husband's grandfather, was a president of the bank. James Elliott, my husband's father, and son-in-law of Jason Coffey, was also a president of the bank.

My husband Roger was a Vice President, Board Chairman, and Board member from 1976, after the death of his father, to 2006 when he retired.

The Middleburg area of Kentucky is rich in history!

My grandmother Jeter was from Middleburg, and lived across from the Old Mill Dam. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Sheila Elliott, Columbia, KY
