WRH Hospital Auxiliary News, November 2010

Stivers Membership and Public Relations Chairman The Westlake Regional Hospital Auxiliary met Monday, November 15, 2010, at 6:30pmCT at the Hospital Cafe, 901 Westlake DR, Columbia, KY for their annual Thanksgiving dinner and monthly meeting. A bountiful Thanksgiving meal was enjoyed consisting of turkey, dressing and gravy along with an array of salads, desserts and dishes of vegetables provided by the members. Vice President Shirley Grider called the meeting to order by welcoming the members and guests. Sharon Harris reads minutes The minutes of the September and October meetings were read by Secretary Sharon Harris and approved. It was good to have Sharon back from having surgery and to know that she is doing great. Auxiliary has spent $9,275.91 on equipment Treasurer Evelyn Phelps gave the financial report which showed that a total of $9,375.91 had been spent on equipment purchased for the Hospital in the last two months. Since the November meeting,11 chairs had been purchased for the Medical Transcribers in the Billing Department and a commercial mixer and toaster purchased for the Kitchen. Through the fund raising projects and events, the Auxiliary is happy to purchase needed items which improves the hospital and benefits every Adair County Citizen. A special "thank you" to each person who supports the Auxiliary by purchasing items from the gift shop, health fair food booth, scrub sales, jewelry sales, raffles, etc. Without your support, funding would not be available for improving the hospital. Several cards were sent Get Well and Thinking of You cards were signed and sent to Auxiliary members Charles Marshall, Mary Hadley and Margie Coffey. Sympathy cards were sent to McEva Mayse in the loss of her husband Arnold; Betty Flaynik and Gail Huddleston in the loss of their sisters, and Mrs. Robert Kell in the death of her husband. A card and gift was presented to Evelyn Phelps in the loss of her sister. Evelyn graciously thanked and expressed appreciation to the members for their kindness. Jewelry and scrub sale successful It was reported that the Jewelry sale and Scrub sale was very successful. Again, A big "Thank You" for all who made purchases. JoAnn Harris welcomed as new member The Auxiliary was delighted to welcome JoAnn Harris as a new member. The Welcome Mat is always out to new members. Meetings are held the third Monday in each month beginning at 6:30 PM at the Hospital Cafe. For additional information contact President Margaret Sparks at 384-4139, Chairman Sue Stivers at 384-3002 or 384-6020, or any member of the Auxiliary. Annabelle Burkett is guest speaker The guest speaker was Annabelle Burkett, Account Executive with intrepid Healthcare Services,whose office is at 220 Office Park Drive in Columbia. She gave a very informative and educational program on "Memory" and discussed a simple test that is available from her agency. She can be reached at 384-6413 for additional information. No meeting in December There will not be a meeting in December since the annual Hospital dinner will be held. Auxiliary members will provide homemade desserts for the occasion. Attendance Those in attendance were: Wanda Bardin, Delwin Blair, Glenna Burton, Anabelle Burkett, Louise Brock, Shirley Grider, Sharon Harris, JoAnn Harris, Hilda Hatcher, Maggie Janes, Yvonne Marshall, Vickie Miller, Shirl Moore, Dorothy Murray, Evelyn Phelps, Shirley and Simpson Reliford, Margaret Sparks, Sue Stivers, Betty and Al Thorsen,and Della Woodrum. Norma McCormick welcomed home We were extremely pleased to "Welcome Home" Norma "Butch Sparks" McCormick from Russellville, KY. Butch as she is lovingly known by Adair Countians was spending a few days with her dear friend Margaret Sparks. Having grown up in the Gradyville community and a long time employee of Houchens, Butch is well known in Columbia/Adair County. Remember her in your prayers as she continues to battle cancer. January 17, 2011, is next meeting The January meeting will be held 6:30pmCT, January 17, 2011 at the Hospital Cafe, 901 Westlake DR, Columbia, KY.
