The students at Adair County Middle School accepted the opportunity to participate in the Patriots Pen Essay Contest, a nationwide competition which gives students an opportunity to write essays expressing their views on democracy with the possibility of winning US savings bonds. Approximately 95 students wrote essays this year for the contest. The theme this year is "Does Patriotism Still Matter." Students completed essays consisting between 300-400 words. Essays were judged based on knowledge of theme, theme development, and the clarity of their ideas. These essays have been sent to District 8 VFW where they will then be judged with other entries from the district. The winner at the district level will then advance to the state level, with the possibility of judging at the national level. Columbia VFW Post 6097 and Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 6097 wish to thank all the students who participated in the contest along with the teachers who helped make this year's contest a great success.
