Katie Melton named International Scholar laureate

Western Kentucky Univesity sophomore from Columbia, KY, will do study in Melbourne, Australia, in June 2010

President of the National Society of Collegiate ScholarsKatie Melton, an Adair Co. High School graduate from Columbia, KY, has been selected to participate in the International Scholar Laureate Program. She will travel to Melbourne, Australia in June 2011 where she will begin researching and shadowing Dr. Marguerite C. Regan.

Katie is a sophomore at Western Kentucky University, and is a Biology/Pre-Med major. She is active in Phi Sigma Pi, The Medallion Honors Society, Alpha Epsilon Delta, and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars where she sits on the board as the Executive Director- Public Relations and Recruitment.



She is the daughter of Gary and Ann Melton, Columbia, KY.

During this time Katie will get a comprehensive comparison of various health care systems, be introduced to biotechnology research methods, shadow some of Melbourne's most prestigious surgeons, and have the opportunity to provide volunteer health care to those in need. Thousands apply for this opportunity, and only two students are selected from each participating university.
