Mr. Lafavers was a member of a respected Russell Co., KY, and was a typesetter by trade

The funeral service will be Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at 1pmCT, at the H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapel, 202 N. Main ST., Jamestown KY, with Bro. Stephen Bennett officiating. Burial will be in the Poplar Grove Church Cemetery, Russell Springs, KY.

Strong Women program starts July 12, 2010

The next Strong Women program will begin Monday July 12, 2010, at 12pmCT, noon. Classes will meet each Monday and Wednesday from 12pm-1pmCT at the Adair County Health Department, 801 Westlake DR, Columbia, KY. Ethan Cundiff, Columbia, KY will appear in Las Vegas, NV

Ethan Cundiff will represent Adair County and Kentucky in Las Vegas, Nevada in the annual International Presentation of Performers (IPOP) at the Venetian Resort July 5 through July 9, 2010.

Ethan is the eight year old son of Roger and Mitzi Cundiff and brother to Chase Coffey, Jessica Cundiff and Jodie Stephens. His grandparents are Billy and Joyce Rodgers and Mary Lee Cundiff, all of Columbia, KY.

Forty-seven Russell Co., KY students make SCC honor List

Forty-seven students from Russell County were named to Somerset Community College Dean's List for the Spring 2010 Semester. SCC's enrollment is more than 8,200 students with only 636 students making the spring Dean's List.

To be a member of the Dean's List, a student must maintain a 3.5 grade point average and be a full-time student at Somerset Community College. A full-time student must take 12 credit hours during a semester, excluding developmental classes.The list follows:

She was the head of a large, respected Green County family and was a member of Greasy Creek Baptist Church. She leaves 33 direct living descendants.

Mrs. Dorothy Mae Jeffries Pierce, 77, of Greensburg, KY, departed this life on Sunday, July 4, 2010 at the Golden Living Center-Greenhill, Greensburg, KY.

The funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Mae Jeffries Pierce will be conducted at 12 noon CT, Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 Main ST, Greensburg, KY with burial to follow in the Warf Cemetery. Visitation is requested from 4 to 9pmCT, Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home and after 7amCT, Wednesday, July 7, 2010, until time of the funeral service.

Firemen respond to fire on Acree RD

Adair County Fire Department

The Adair County Fire Dept responded to 1289 Acree RD off of White Oak Church RD to a residence occupied by Steve and Stacy Clemmons, upon arrival discovered an electrical problem found in the attic, with minor fire damage. There were 10 Firemen on the scene for about 45 minutes.
