Didn't see much out for KY 55 Yard Sale To ColumbiaMagazine.com: Good morning. We went on the yard sale on Thursday, when it started, and we went from one end to the other. It is a beautiful drive but we only saw 8 or 9 yard sales. Is this the first time you have had the Hwy 55 yard sale? Maybe it just hasn't caught on. Maybe Thursday people just did not have the sales out yet. Also, we really did not see a lot of signs telling which way to go to get to the sale. Thank you so much for letting me make a comment. s/Barbara and JP Fogle 2010-04-25 17:31:16 | Comments | Printable version

Carol Perkins: The Furniture Truck The furniture bought off a North Carolina furniture truck parked in Edmonton, KY, left its own aesthetic legacy in the family, and a reminder of Guy Perkins' rule, A bargain is only a bargain if you need what you buy. Next previous Carol Perkins column: Color Me Beautiful By Carol Perkins The Furniture Truck I seldom pay much attention to TV commercials, but one caught my attention recently because it reminded me of a moment a long time ago. The time was when a furniture truck came to town and, like most women who crave new furniture when they have little, my friends and I couldn't wait to climb inside the back of that truck to browse. When I say young women have little, what I mean is little of their own. Most of us started with furniture given to us by our relatives. "Here, you can have this old couch. We don't use it much." Soon, it is in your living room until you can do better. When you can, you pass it to your children...if they will have it. Jesus responded by telling the parable of the Good Samaritan, ending by asking the lawyer who in the parable had been a neighbor to the main beset by thieves and left bleeding on the road. "The lawyer replied, 'The one who had mercy on him.'" Jesus then responded, "Go, and do likewise." A Kindred Spirit: In final analysis, Off button is ultimate censor Wonders why Christians weren't as upset as other religious groups about recent television show, but notes, 'The really nice thing about all this controversy over a television show is this...there's a button on every remote control that says "Off" and we have the power to push it!' Freedom of Speech and South Park This week I have watched the news and read articles about the television show South Park and how the creators of the show were threatened with physical violence because they depicted Muhammad in a bear suit. The people who produce the show censored it to prevent any repercussions by Muslim extremists. I don't watch South Park but the idea that the show's writers were endangered because of something they had written piqued my curiosity, so I kept reading the newspaper article about the incident.
