CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - Campbellsville University publicly gave thanks Tuesday night to Citizens Bank & Trust Company Inc., the business that gave the first half million dollars to CU's $1.2 million More Than a Game campaign.

Since the campaign launched in September 2009, lights have been added to CU baseball's Tiger Field and Finley Stadium. The playing surface at Finley Stadium is also undergoing the final preparation before installing synthetic turf for football and soccer.

Tuesday, April 20, 2010, Citizens Bank & Trust President and CEO Mark Johnson threw out the ceremonial first pitch, caught by Campbellsville native Logan Smith, at the first home night baseball game in CU history. Trevecca Nazarene University beat Campbellsville, 9-6.

Johnson was accompanied by CBT board members Ray Altman, Bill Collins, Thomas R. McMahan and George Wise, along with CU President Dr. Michael V. Carter and Director of Athletics Rusty Hollingsworth.

"I can't say enough about what the Citizens Bank and Trust Company gift means for our university,"' Hollingsworth said. "The bank's commitment to Christian higher education can be seen all across our campus. I want to thank Mark Johnson and the Board of Directors for helping us move forward with our fund raising effort. This project is so much bigger than lights and turf and will benefit so many students and programs at Campbellsville University."

The bank was the first donor to the campaign, and the meat of the current total of nearly $700,000.

"Citizens Bank is honored to work with Campbellsville University as they provide quality Christian educational opportunities to students across our region. The bank is answering the call to the Vision 2025 challenge at the university. The investment the bank makes now to help add new lights and turf will enhance all of Taylor County for generations to come. We are proud to be a small part of the success at Campbellsville University. It truly is an asset that benefits us all," Johnson said.

Johnson and the bank have been long-time donors to Campbellsville University, something Carter is very appreciative of.

"The ongoing support of Mr. Johnson and Citizens Bank is exemplary and enables Campbellsville University to provide quality athletic facilities for our student-athletes. These facility improvements have a direct and lasting impact on the lives of those who will use these fields for many years to come. We appreciate their ongoing investment in the Christian higher education mission of Campbellsville University," Carter said.

In addition to corporate and personal campaign gifts, CU has raised money for the campaign through numerous events on campus, including dinners with former Marshall University football coach Jack Lengyel, Country Music legend Vince Gill and Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker Dick Butkus.

The second half of the campaign's nights of celebration will be Saturday, August 28, 2010, as Campbellsville University hosts Kentucky Christian University for the first night football game and first game on synthetic turf at Finley Stadium.
