Remembering Cavella Lyons: From a great, good family

About: Obituary Cavella Lyons Robbins, 56, Florence KY

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I am so sorry to hear of Cavella's passing and I want to express my condolences to the entire family.

Beyond that however, there are so many wonderful, pleasant memories running through my mind about this great and good family that I can hardly process them all.

Doug Lyons and I attended Lindsey Wilson at the same time during their stay at the Antioch Parsonage in Sparksville. We spent a bunch of time together and I cherish each and every moment and memory. I am proud to call Doug my friend and am forever grateful for having gained the acquaintance of him and his family.

Brother Lyons, Mrs. Lyons and all their family were an inspiration to me in their commitment to each other, their commitment to the Lord, and their commitment to goodness.

Yes, I suppose I will always remember this family most of all for their goodness.

s/Billy Joe Fudge

Ripped from the headlines of the News February 16 1910

The Adair County News of February 16, 2010, included news of mishaps and strange deaths, of the canning factory at Cane Valley, of the school at Glens Fork started by Prof. W.G. Aaron, of ads from a mill at Craycraft, Isenberg Corner, and Reed Hardware Co., of a death caused by a cockleburr, of a society trip to Aaron, GA; and a report from Knifley, KY, about the righteousness of the peaceful community

By "Jim"

Perhaps all three of the good folks who read this column can find it in their hearts to forgive the made-up headlines. My care giver slipped a puckish pill in my meds this morning.
Mr. Stults Goes to Frankfort
The many friends of Mr. T.R. Stults will be glad to learn that he has been appointed clerk of the State Board of Equalization headquarters [Property Tax Board, for those who are not quite so chronologically enhanced as Ye Transcriber], at Frankfort. The position pays five dollars per day and will last for one hundred days.
Faithful followers of the "One Hundred Years Ago" column may recall Mr. Stults had served four terms as County Court Clerk before being ousted by Democrat Walker Bryant in the tumultuous election of 1909.

Crocus, March Lily Watch: A matter of days now

Adair County Garden Club President Barbara Armitage found these March Lilies in Bloom on Bull Run Branch on March 2, 2009. If the weather has really changed, and springlike days are here again, that's only 12 days away, considering that last year was Leap year and this year, poor February has only 28 days.

March lillies were budding on Greenbriar Ridge, in Southern Adair County three weeks earlier. Kay Haupt photographed them on February 8, 2009.

Last year,
Crocus blooms were photographed in Columbia, KY on February 20, 2009 at the Edgar Troutman Residence.

Photos and reports for the Crocus and March Lilly Watch are welcome

Two wonderful puppies available for adoption

Ed

Just a short note to let you know that we still have the puppies, Gordo and Margie.I hope everyone is just waiting for more spring like weather to come.

Thanks to the great care of Dr. Janice Coffey in Columbia, both puppies are in excellent health. They're smart, and they're learning new tricks. Margie loves to be inside, and has already learned the command "Sit." She's also known as "Little Princess," because of her refinement, but in her new home, she'll gladly accept another name, if you like.

These adorable pups will make great pets. We just want to give them loving, Forever Homes.

Respectfully,
Linda K. Miller
Dunnville, KY

It is hard to believe that these adorable puppies haven't gone to a good home yet. It may have been the weather and the bad roads. With spring right uppapatomus, to quote the late Michael Campbell, surely somebody will be calling you anytime. We rotate them to the front page again today. -EW

Lots of Special Birthdays today, including that of First Lady

There are a lot of very special birthdays today, and not just my little sister, Annette Richards, and for the longest serving Speaker of the House in the history of Kentucky, Jody Richards, and Mary Richards, Heather Phillips, Sharon Pickett, Michael England, Barbara Armitage, Hannah Stanley, Kazimierz Rusek., and Tammy Lynn Sexton.

When this letter from George Payne was received, it was puzzling for just a moment:
"Happy Birthday First Lady I hope President Lloyd makes this a special day for you." It was signed, "George Payne."
It's First Lady Mary Tupman's birthday today. With her above at Betty's in April 2009, are daughter Anna, brother John Tupman, left, and father James David Tupman.
Of course the crytic message is a salute to First Lady Mary Tupman, wife of Adair County Band Booster President Doyle Lloyd.

We tried to get every important birthday, but may have missed a few. If we did, there's still time to send it using any Contact/Submit button on the site. -Ed Waggener

"Art is where you find it" and "art is everywhere" are just two common quotes that may or may not be attributable to any one individual.
