Adair County bird count helped by Burkesvillian Cumberland Countian shooshed cardinals to Adair Co, KY. She sends flock of 16 cardinals north to Columbia, KY, for second counting, in honor of dedicated bird census taker Sue Stivers Bird Count Chairman: As suggested by your Chamber of Commerce, I counted the birds in my back yard today. I counted 16...most were cardinals...more males than females (determined by their brilliant red feathers). I have two confessions to make. Most were in the large tree in my yard or on my deck but, I must admit, some were in the field behind my house where they were sharing food with my neighbor's cows. The second confession is that these birds were actually in Cumberland County, but I encouraged them to fly north, so as to soon be in Adair County. I think it will be ok if you count them again when they arrive in a backyard there. I asked them not to divulge that this would actually be the second time they were being counted. Since I am a member of the Adair County Chamber of Commerce I think all of this was legal on my part. s/Marg Henderson This letter was directed to Sue Stivers at the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce and she forwarded it to ColumbiaMagazine.com. We in turn, are sending it to the Adair County GBBC Equivalent of Santa's Workshop, the Adair County Garden Club's Dynamic Duo and Birding 101's faculty, Wendy Burt and Barbara Armitage. -CM This story was posted on 2010-02-20 07:36:05
