FFA Greenhand Ceremony held Thursday, February 18, 2010 Makayla Harrison wins Quiz Contest; Cassidy Pickens wins Creed contest Click on headline for full story plus photo(s) By Whittney Ford The Adair County FFA Greenhand Ceremony was held February 18, 2010 at 6:30pmCT in the Adair County High School Cafeteria. There were 63 members, 85 guests, and three advisors. Also, we had two very special guests. They were the Kentucky State FFA President Brian Jarvis and the Lake Cumberland State Vice President, Samantha Clark. The program began with a devotion by our FFA Sweetheart, Chelsea Green. After Chelsea finished, we had the official welcome by assistant principal, Doug Holmes. Then it was time to present the freshman with their Greenhand degree and pin. The certificates were handed out by Adair County FFA Chapter president, Sarah Thompson and pins by advisor, Mr. Kirby Hancock. After receiving the pin and certificate all Greenhands got a handshake from all senior officers. Next the quiz contest was held. All 14 contestants performed well, but the last one standing and winner of the contest was Makayla Harrison. Makayla will advance to regional competition in March. Following the quiz contest was the FFA Creed contest. There were four participants this year. Each contestant did a wonderful job at reciting the five paragraph creed, but in the end it was decided by our judges that Cassidy Pickens did the best. She will advance to regional competition in March as well. Kenzie Rowe of Farm Service Agency, was our guest speaker and spoke to us about FFA Project Loans. After the meeting was officially closed, President Sarah Thompson invited all guests to stay for refreshments. This story was posted on 2010-02-20 14:07:09
