Choice is Nashville for flying to West Coast

About: Best airport with scheduled service near Columbia KY

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I would say the best nearby airport depends on your desired destination. I choose Nashville because it's the closest airport in the area with direct non-stop flights to Los Angeles. Nashville is only about 2 hours away. Louisville would be my next choice (2 hours). Then Cincinnati (Northern Kentucky) (4 hours).

I've never used Lexington because it has fewer flights, but it would probably be a good choice also.

INFAC is fine company and great addition to local economic base

About: GOOD NEWS: INFAC to expand adding 20 new jobs

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Thanks, Ed, for carrying the story on the expansion by INFAC.

INFAC is a fine company and great addition to the economic base of the community and region. All of us involved with Team Taylor County (Campbellsville-Taylor County Economic Development Authority) are very thankful for this expansion.

Ron McMahan, the TTC Executive Director, is doing a very good job for us, and Campbellsville University has played a role in the location of INFAC to the community.

The company's original decision was, in part, because of the presence of the internatinoal student comunity at CU and the presence of South Korean students here. One of our South Korean students served as an interpreter for the group visiting th ecommunity, and the student's home in Seoul was in close proximity to the company's corporate headquarters.

We are very fortunate to have a very positive "town-gown" relationship at Campbellsville University and consider it a primary part of our institutional mission to be involved in regional stewardship and economic development.

Best,
s/John Chowning

Several years ago, Gerald L. Chafin's research in choral literature led him down an interesting path.

Chafin, who is Lindsey Wilson College associate professor of music and director of choral programs, began collecting musical settings of distinguished poetry. "By this, I mean well-known poems penned by the classical poets and were set to music years later," Chafin said.

Monday night, the community can hear "the poets sing."

We only use Columbia International's chartered and free service, and stay out of airplanes otherwise. If any frequent air travellers have advice for this new resident, please send to CM. Air travel, other than from Columbia-Adair County Airport, is not a requisite subject at the Adair Assimilation Academy, according to Johnny Vaughn, Dean.

Adair School Bd. meeting report October 28, 20009

In last night's school board meeting
  • Board votes unanimously to fight for Nickel Tax. All out campaign promised. Opponents won't be demonized, but facts to be brought to public with every possible means.
  • Story in progress. More later

By Ed Waggener

Acting unanimously on the recommendation of Superintendent Darrell Treece, the Adair County School Board has officially voted to put the question of the Nickel Tax to a vote in a special election should that be necessary if the tax recall petition has the 755 valid signatures needed to force a board decision on the recall.

The vote was 5-0 to fight for the tax, which, school officials say, is the key to financing badly needed new school facilities with the cost to the county.

Mitch McKinley voices concerns on spending of tax money

About: Amazing attitudes toward nickel tax quarter gas premium

To ColumbiaMagazine.com

I would like to know if anyone has ever figured out exactly what the school system takes in each year from all the taxes and state funds they get. They already have a tax added on to several things. It's not fair that the people who don't own property or have insurance don't pay for their kids' education. I am all for education but but just like the justice center; why do we need granite floors and plush fixtures to send a criminal up the creek.
