Genealogy workshop at KY History Center, Sat., Nov. 7, 2009 From KY Historical Society The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) and the Kentucky Genealogical Society (KGS) will host Beyond the Basics: Digging Deeper into Census Records, Court Records and Library Resources, a free workshop that will include two sessions from 10:30amCT to 1:30pmCT on Saturday, November 7, 2009, at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History, 100 West Broadway, Frankfort, KY. In this months Family-History Workshop, researchers will learn innovative techniques for gleaning additional, and often overlooked, information from many types of commonly used historical records. During the morning session, Deborah Lord Campisano will offer advice on determining a research objective and preparing a strategy for solving your family history mysteries. Examples will illustrate methods for getting the most from census records and locating vital record substitutes. In the afternoon, Campisano will explore different types of court records, including wills, administrations, court minutes and a variety of land and tax records. Examples will provide detailed help on using these records effectively.Presented by KHS and KGS, the free Family-History Workshop series takes place on the second Saturday of each month at the Center for Kentucky History. Please note that this months workshop is on the first Saturday of the month, rather than the second. Topics range from how to begin documenting your ancestry to specialized resources for experienced genealogists. If requested at the time of registration, an optional light lunch is available at a cost of $6, payable at the door.
