Reunion old WHAS buddies at Campbellsville

2009-04-24 - Campbellsville University, Campbellsville, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
BYRON CRAWFORD, Kentucky's best known journalist, radio commentator and television host, was the speaker at Campbellsville University's Media Appreciation Luncheon, yesterday. With him above is a colleague from WHAS radio days, Southern Kentucky's best known radio personality, Larry Smith. Both remembered the late Caywood Ledford, one of the all-time legends of Kentucky broadcasting, as a role model. During his address, Byron Crawford told of his pride on learning that Ledford had nominated him for the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame before his death. Crawford was inducted into the Hall of Fame this year. Smith is the news director for Shoreline Communications, which owns and operates 92.7 the WAVE in Columbia/Russell Springs, and WVLK, The Big Dawg, in Campbellsville, KY.

Charles Marshburn comments on state of things here

About: Mark R Bess will settle in Adair Co KY in just 4 years

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Columbia is filling up with refugees from Florida! I wonder if this fellow knows how to plant tobacco.

s/Charles Marshburn

Don't know about all his ag skills; he's probably as good as any thinking from a tractor seat. But the consensus is that Florida has a serious braindrain in process, benefitting Breeding, KY, a community never short on gray matter, starting with the illustrious family for which the town was named.

In June 25, 2008 you posted a photo #27520 of the Strand theater and Star Theater. Here's some information on the photos. Hope it helps. The top is the old Strand Theater, which was located on the square in Jamestown and the Star was built to replace it.

This is the oldest photo of the Star that I have found. It was taken before the Star opened probably in Fall 1949 because the Star opened on in 1950.
