Adair County Public Library Board gathered together on Monday November 10, 2008. Ellen Zornes, Adair County Schools District Coordinator with the A.C.T.I.O.N. Generation, along with several members from other clubs and organizations gave special recognition to Mary Knight for all her humanitarian efforts to Columbia and Adair County.

THIS COLT .45 REVOLVER, now owned by Jim Hadley, President of Majestic Yachts has a great history. It was once used to guard the bank at Creelsboro, when that Russell County Community had a bank.

Alternative electric vehicles can now be licensed in Kentucky

Low speed electrics can be driven on roads with speed limits less than 45mph; golf carts, ATV's excluded from order. No electric vehicles yet licensed in Adair County. But in Simpson County, where electric cars are to be built, four should be registered soon

An administrative order signed by Kentucky Transportation Secretary Joe Prather allows "alternative electric vehicles" to be registered and titled for the first time in Kentucky.

The order, which is being sent to Kentucky's 120 county clerks, was prompted by an increase in consumer interest in electric cars and trucks.

An impressive sidearm, a Colt .45 revolver, is part of the collection of firearms owned by Jim Hadley, President of Majestic Yachts of Columbia, KY.

The pistol was once used to guard the bank at Creelsboro, when the Russell County Cumberland River port had a bank.

That was the message delivered by Army veteran Russell Lunsford at theannual Lindsey Wilson College Veterans Appreciation Luncheon, heldMonday, November 10, 2008, at the college's Roberta D. Cranmer Dining& Conference Center.

"The freedom we have today has been paid for and continues to be paidfor with the blood of American servicemen and -women," Lunsfordsaid.

Pursuit ends with arrest on Crooked Creek, Adair Co., KY

Gregory R. McGowan, 45, Jamestown, KY, lodged in Adair County Regional Jail after Sgt. Ray Gibbs makes arrest following incident which began at Clementsville, ends with crash and arrest on Crooked Creek Road in District 6, in northern Adair County, KY. KSP lists 17 charges from incident

Sgt David Ray Gibbs, attempted to stop a 1995 Dodge pickup on KY 70 West near Clementsville, KY, last night, Tuesday, November 11, 2008, at around 11:00pm, for no tail lights but the operator refused to comply and a pursuit ensued which ended with the operator crashing his pickup, being arrested and being taken to the Adair County Regional Jail and facing 17 charges.

The pursuit continued westbound on KY 70 when the vehicle struck a guardrail. The vehicle still continued westbound and then changed direction of travel, headed eastbound on KY 70.

Christmas party, Chamber installation rites, Dec. 1, 2008 at LWC

The annual Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce Christmas Party, at which the installation of new officers takes place, will be held Monday, December 1, 2008, from 6:30pm to 8:30pmCT, at Cranmer Dining Center, Lindsey College.

The installation of new officers will begin at 8:00pmCT.

The corporate sponsor for the event is Lindsey Wilson College, William T. Luckey, President.

Big private Veterans Day event at home of Donald McKinney

Adair Countians are patriotic. It shows in special July 4, Labor Day, Veteran's Day, and Memorial Day events.Most are public--in churches, schools, commercial centers, civic venues.

But for the families of Donald and Bobbie Smythe McKinney, a very special and private event was held Saturday, November 8, 2008, at the couple's residence to commemorate the service of family members, neighbors, and classmates.

It was invitation only, a private ceremony, but still there were some 60 individuals present for lunch, a program at the house, and a walk to Donald McKinney's Secret Place with its Veterans Walkway for the dedication of a marker recognizing individual service.

David Collins re-opens Flatwoods Grocery & Deli

Flatwoods Grocery & Deli, 3550 Burkesville Road, Burkesville Road/KY 61 South, has re-opened under the management of David Collins. Collins is now serving short order breakfasts, lunches and suppers and is re-stocking the grocery shelves.

His father Greg Collins, said that he expects David will have the store in full swing by Friday, November 15, 2008. David Collins is continuing the traditional name of the store. "This is what people know the store by," his father said. "and the sign was already up. David didn't see any need to change it."

The store's phone number remains the same, (270) 378-6610, too.

The first customer at the store was Flatwoods community leader Elmo Petty.

The management expects business to be brisk with construction work underway on the stretch of KY 61 south between the Jumping Off Place and Sparksville, KY.

ACJ Motivators win 2nd Place in Louisville competition

Adair Count ACJ Motivators placed 2nd in the Elementary/Rec Division, in the St. Bernard Cheerleading Competition, in Louisville, KY, at Eastern High School, on November 8, 2008. It was the group's first competition.

The cheerleading squad is made up of students in A-ACES, C-Col. Wm. Casey and J - John Adair.

The Motivators competing in Louisville were Kayla Absher, Christa Bardin, Saige Bolin, Becca Brown, Kaylee Burton, Taylor Calhoun, Makenzie Coomer, Katherine Curry, Cheyenne Greer, Tori Kimbler, Brandy Powell, Kaylee Robinson, Hannah Scott, Sydney Slaven, Breann Stephens, and Ch'Dara Wheat.

The ACJ Motivators are coached by Brandi Waggener of Tumble Towne.

Obituary: Carrie M. Turner, 80

Mrs. Turner was a member of the United Brethren in Christ Church and the head of a large, respected family. She leaves 63 direct living descendants

Carrie M. Turner, 80, 2705 Russell Springs Road, Columbia, KY, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2008, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, KY, after an illness.

The funeral service will be Thursday, November 13, 2008, at 1:00pmET at Cedar Chapel in Leslie County, KY with Rev. Titus Boggs officiating. Visitation will be after 4:30pmCT, Wednesday, November 12, 2008, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, and after 10:00amET Thursday, November 13 at Cedar Chapel Church in Leslie County, KY. Interment will be in Abners Branch Cemetery in Big Laurel, KY
