Letter: Writer says partisan shots hold KY and Adair Co. back

Ed,

As I read L.T. Grider's note about Route 61 on Columbia Magazine today, I could not help but react with disgust and disbelief. Before Mr. Grider takes cheap partisan shots at our former governor and current County Judge Executive, he should get his facts straight and not speak out in deafening ignorance.

Scout double-crop, late planted soybeans for soybean aphids

Picture of soybean aphids accompanies this article
By Nick Roy, Adair County Extension Agent

High infestations of Soybean Aphids have been reported in late planted soybeans fields in Adair County this week. UK Entomologist Doug Johnson feels this is mostly due in part to the recent cooler temperatures.

Soybean aphids have caused as much as 50% loss of production to many U.S. farmers since 2000, however, infestations in Kentucky fields had been non-threatening.

COF takes up for Miz Ann; holds CJE in hi regard

About: Doomed Hwy 61 Project: Payback is hell

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

In the words of my ole sidekick: Well, GOLLY GEE!." Round these parts, we always held Miz Ann in hi regard, but we had no idee she was so powerful as to single handed drain the financial reserves of the State of KY. Sorta sets one to wunderin which of those projects she pushed for Mr LT Grider would like to see undone. Just think of all the casinos we could of had if'n thet money had gone instead to buy some more votes on the hill!

Feedback: re: What will happen with Jumping Off Place

About: Photo, Jumping Off Place

To ColumbiaMagazine.com

Thank you, Ed, for taking this picture. Wish you would send it to the Courier Journal.

I wrote in the comment section about this very issue. I even invited Mr. Prather to come see the mess.

Hope he reads my comments. It should have never been allowed to be left like this. A fine mess to see just before you come upon the new Walmart development.

Feedback: Doomed Hwy 61 project. Payback is hell

Ed,

I just saw the sad story of the Rte. 61 project getting killed. I feel your pain, Eddie, but perhaps had not your kinswoman Ann Melton aided and abetted former Governor Fletcher in draining the Highway Dept. budget ("CJE got $1,700,000 extra for county from Governor this year"--CM headline, 11-02-07), the project might still be alive.

And don't forget that your fellow Adair Countians cast over two-thirds of their ballots for Fletcher -- the losing candidate -- in the election last fall ("In Adair, a GOP sweep; Governor gets 67.74% of vote"--CM headline, 11-06-07).

Payback is hell, isn't it?

s/L.T. Grider
