City Council approves Parrott Ave. zoning, option for land Council approves P&Z recommendation, hears zoning map change, and votes to join Adair Fiscal Court on option for land for Senior center. Mayor to write letter on KY 61 South Project. City Attorney suggests that a state bond issue might yet save the project. By Ed Waggener The City Council met in a special session today and approved an ordinance zoning the newly annexed Parrott Avenue subdivision. The Council voted 6-0 to approve the recommendation of the City Planning and Zoning Commission. The council heard a first reading of an ordinance amending the City Planning and Zoning Districts Map to reflect the Parrott Avenue Annexaton Zoning Recommendations. The meeting started at 2:00pmCT in City Hall and was complete in a little over five minutes. The Council also approved Mayor Bell's recommendation to match an Adair County Fiscal Court payment of $1,500 for an option on one acre of land south of the Loy Medical Center. The total cost of the land would be $61,000. The site will be used to construct a Senior Citizens Center if an when Federal and State Grants are received. The land would be used for a new $1 million Senior Citizens Center, which will be built with $500,000 grants from the Federal government and a like amount from the State. The State grant application requires an option for the site be in place. Mayor Bell told the council that Judy Keltner of the Lake Cumberland Area Development District thought that the grants would be forthcoming after the option is in place. Councillor Joe Moore moved adjournment. After adjournment Mayor Bell told the Councillors he planned to write a letter to Transportaton Cabinet Secretary Joe Prather telling him of the city's hopes that the KY 61 South project be completed. City Attorney Marshall Loy said that he believed that the project might be revived if a new state bond issue is passed. Mayor Bell said that he would write letter to Secretary Prather. All six City Council members, Joe Moore, Linda Waggener, June Parson, Charles Grimsley, Edwin Taylor, and Craig Dean were present. As were Mayor Bell, City Clerk Carolyn Edwards, City Attorney Marshall Loy, and Citizen Roy Rademacher plus media representatives. This story was posted on 2008-09-23 15:02:49
