Lindsey Wilson criminal justice professor to be featured Thursday on WKYU-FM.

Lindsey Wilson College Associate Professor of Sociology & Criminal Justice Daniel Phillips III will be featured Thursday, May 15, 2008, on WKYU-FM.

Phillips was interviewed about Communities at Oakwood. The state facility in Somerset, KY, for adults with mental retardation has been embroiled in controversy over the last couple of years.

Phillips' interview will be aired at 5:50amCT and 7:50amCT during "Morning Edition" and then at 11:30amCT during "The Midday Edition."

In Adair County, WKYU-FM can be heard on 89.7 or over the Internet at www.wkyufm.org.

LWC Women's Tennis in National Semifinals 3rd straight year!

Blue Raiders face No. 2 seed Fresno at 9amCT Thursday

The Lindsey Wilson College women's tennis team advanced into the national semifinals today with a 5-0 win over California Baptist University at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center.

The third-seeded Blue Raiders advance to their third straight national semifinal to face No. 2-seed Fresno Pacific (CA) University at 9amCT on Thursday. Fresno Pacific advanced to the semifinals with an identical 5-0 win over Berry (GA) College.

Adair County Head Start ends school year with a fun day

The Adair County Head Start program concluded its 2007-08 with a "Fun Day" on Wednesday morning.

More than 70 Adair County children and their family members attended the festival, held in the Columbia First Church of the Nazarene's recreation hall.

Students and their guests enjoyed snow cones, pizza and other refreshments while playing on two giant inflatable toys.

Redundant water plant closure will have to wait 1 more week

A special called meeting of the Columbia Utilities Commission, scheduled for 10:00amCT this morning could not be held for lack of a quorum. The now redundant Columbia Utilities Commission water plant will continue in standby mode for another week, when the matter of its closure will be considered in the regular monthly meeting of the lame duck commission on Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at 11:30amCT.

The meeting was to finalize the shutdown of the Columbia Water Plant. But Commissioner David Wells was unable to attend. With the decision not to fill vacant commission seats, all three currently sitting members must to be present for a quorum, since the ordinance governoring the board sets its membership at five.

Gas Price Drumbeat: Stop driving so much

Writer suggests looking to President, US Representatives and US Senators with concerns over high gas prices, not CJE and Mayor

Every time I drive by a gas station it sickens me to know how much money my family is spending each week on gas for our cars. I can't help but reminisce about the "good ole days" of 2005 when gas was only $2.00/gallon.

The thing I don't understand though is the impression which exists within our community that our elected officials have any real influence over what the gas prices are in Columbia and Adair County.

Adair County could become the 14th county in Kentucky to offer One Call Now Emergency Alert System, which will allow the County 911 Center and Emergency Management Director to notify the entire county, by phone of an emergency situations.

Giles Society President Metzmeier to speak at Chamber meeting

The Columbia-Adair County Chamber will meet Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at 11:45amCT, at the Columbia United Methodist Church with Clara Metzmeier, President of the Giles Society, as the guest speaker. You won't want to miss hearing all about the activities that will be going on at the Janice Holt and Henry Giles House this summer. The Giles House is one of our top tourism attractions in this area. Ann gets good news on 911 Dispatch Center funding

Dispatcher deficit obligations now met by Adair County EMS and Sheriff's Department; decision on City of Columbia share as center's biggest user, awaited. CJE optimistic City will come through

The Adair Ambulance Board overrode the objections of Board Chairman J.D. Biggs at last night's meeting of the Adair Ambulance Board and voted 2-0 to contribute an amount equal to 22% of the projected deficit on Dispatcher's salaries.

The funeral service will be Saturday, May 17, 1008, at 11:00am, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home with Bro. David Coffey officiating.

Nominations are now being accepted for parent members willing to serve on the Adair County Elementary School Site Base Council for the 2008-09 school year.
