Lindsey Wilson College Associate Professor of Sociology & Criminal Justice Daniel Phillips III will be featured Thursday, May 15, 2008, on WKYU-FM. Phillips was interviewed about Communities at Oakwood. The state facility in Somerset, KY, for adults with mental retardation has been embroiled in controversy over the last couple of years. Phillips' interview will be aired at 5:50amCT and 7:50amCT during "Morning Edition" and then at 11:30amCT during "The Midday Edition." Adair County Head Start ends school year with a fun day With one photo by Duane Bonifer The Adair County Head Start program concluded its 2007-08 with a "Fun Day" on Wednesday morning. More than 70 Adair County children and their family members attended the festival, held in the Columbia First Church of the Nazarene's recreation hall. Redundant water plant closure will have to wait 1 more week By Ed Waggener A special called meeting of the Columbia Utilities Commission, scheduled for 10:00amCT this morning could not be held for lack of a quorum. The now redundant Columbia Utilities Commission water plant will continue in standby mode for another week, when the matter of its closure will be considered in the regular monthly meeting of the lame duck commission on Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at 11:30amCT. The meeting was to finalize the shutdown of the Columbia Water Plant. But Commissioner David Wells was unable to attend. With the decision not to fill vacant commission seats, all three currently sitting members must to be present for a quorum, since the ordinance governoring the board sets its membership at five.
