Recently my grandson came home after spending a year in Iraq.

I had asked the managers of some of the fast food places if they would display his welcome home on their outside signs.

Pizza Hut, and Wendys were glad to do it.

That being said, I would like to express my sincerest appreciation and gratitude to Westlake Hospital and especially to the emergency room staff.

LWC students organize 30 Hr. Famine to raise hunger awareness

EVENTS

By Duane Bonifer, LWC Director of Public Affairs

A group of Lindsey Wilson College students hope to raise the region's awareness about world hunger by going hungry for 30 hours next week.

Lindsey Wilson will be among dozens of colleges and universities who will participate in the 30 Hour Famine on February 21-22. Sponsored by World Vision, the event asks participants to fast for 30 hours because that's the average time a child in a poor country goes between meals. Participants are permitted to drink water and juices, but they abstain from foods.

"We realize that in places such as Africa there is a food crisis, but most kids in America have a conscious crisis," said Weston Pope, a biology sophomore from Clarksville, Ind. "And because of this we felt like we could bring awareness and open people's eyes up. If we are the conduits of that, that would be awesome."

Transportation director reminds items banned on busses

Since school has been cancelled for the next couple of days and wereturn on Thursday, February 14, 2008, which is Valentine's Day, I would like to remind our students and the public about a couple laws concerning some items on a Kentucky School bus.

The Law does not permit balloons, glass items and any item that may block the view of the driver or the center aisle on a Kentucky School bus.

I hope this doesn't inconvenience any student or parent but we wantto make sure our students have as safe ride as possible on the bus.

Gas Price Drumbeat: Says Speedway initiates price hikes

LETTERS & FEEDBACK

To ColumbiaMagazine.com

I stopped at our Gate station tonight and learned that Speedway went up to 2.99 today, then Newcomb's to 2.89 and Gate was still at 2.83. I filled up even though Campbellsville was 2.75 last week. I want to buy gas locally, but only at a fair price for our area. Since we should all know by now where our real problem lies (Speedway), we should also know where the solution lies. I wouldn't buy a nickel's worth of gas at Speedway.

Who I buy from expresses my policy
