By Christina Miller, student news writerMiranda Meeks of Princeton, KY was crowned the 2008 Valentine Pageant Queen at Campbellsville University at The Gheens Recital Hall on Friday, February 8, 2008.

Ms. Meeks also won the interview, poise and talent competitions. She represented Sigma Nu Phi. She performed puppetry as her talent.




She will represent Campbellsville University in the Mountain Laurel Festival in Pineville in May 2008.

First runner-up was Lauren Shrader of West Chester, OH who was also named Ms. Congeniality. She represented the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and also sang as her talent.

Brittany Hall of Lawrenceburg, KY, representing the Student Government Association, was second runner-up. Hall sang as her talent.

The award for Best Escort went to Nic Hervey of Alexandria, KY, who was Laura Clark's escort.

Participants in the 2008 Miss Valentine Pageant included:
  • Jessica Kamaunu, escorted by Daniel Emerson, represented the Senior Class

  • Anna Marie Johnson, escorted by Trent Creason, represented Baptist Campus Ministry

  • Laura Clark, escorted by Nic Hervey, represented Admissions Interns

  • Nicole Wilcox, escorted by Jeremy Elmore, represented the Junior Class

  • Brittany Hall, escorted by Robert Keeling, represented Student Government Association

  • Miranda Meeks, escorted by Chris Rice, represented Sigma Nu Pi

  • Andrea Fielding, escorted by Chris Ash, represented Kentucky Educators Association#Student Program

  • Sarah Sprague, escorted by Justin Thomas, represented the Art Club

  • and Lauren Shrader, escorted by Tyler Jackson, represented Fellowship of Christian Athletes
Each contestant represented a club or organization at CU, and for the first time they also represented the ONE campaign to make poverty history. SGA partnered with the ONE campaign so that the pageant would serve as a fundraiser. Canned goods and other donations were accepted to go toward the campaign which allowed the pageant to act as a way to raise awareness about worldwide hunger and poverty, and also to help put an end to the problem.

The nine young women exhibited their individual talents to compete for the crown. A variety of talents were shown including black light puppetry and painting to music, along with several vocal and musical talents.

The pageant was sponsored by the Student Government Association and the ONE Campaign. Fred Miller, assistant director of student records, was the master of ceremonies for the pageant.

Judges were Trisha Hall and Connie Shuffett, both of Greensburg, and Richie McClerkin of Campbellsville.

The Valentine Pageant Committee consisted of Faun Lobb, staff chair; Trisha Bamwine, chair; Kegan Nall, Amanda Ford and Brittany Pelly, co-chairs; Mindy McCowan, secretary; Natasha Horton and Christina Miller, judges' assistants; and Tony Huddleston and Holly Durham, stagehands.Campbellsville University is a private, comprehensive institution located in South Central Kentucky. Founded in 1906, Campbellsville University is affiliated with the Kentucky Baptist Convention and has an enrollment of 2,405 students who represent 98 Kentucky counties, 25 states and 29 foreign nations.
