Letter: Thanks to Wendy's, Pizza Hut for welcoming soldier back Two restaurants put up welcomes; third said it was too cold To the editor, ColumbiaMagazine.com Recently my grandson came home after spending a year in Iraq. I had asked the managers of some of the fast food places if they would display his welcome home on their outside signs. Pizza Hut, and Wendys were glad to do it. When I asked the manager at (another restaurant) she said it was too cold to go out and change the sign. How hard is it to change some words on a sign in comparison to what our troops are doing in Iraq? They have to endure heat that ranges from 125 to 130 degrees. They also have to endure the sandstorms that they can barely see or breath in. They are risking their lives every minute of the day and night for us. I hope when she lays in her comfortable bed at night she will think of those who are fighting for her freedom here in the U.S.A. and what they are going through for us. So really, how hard is it to show a soldier some appreciation for what he has done by putting his name on a sign in welcoming him home. Not hard at all, in comparison to what he's been through. I want to thank Pizza Hut and Wendy's for showing their appreciation and for welcoming him home. s/L. Stephens This story was posted on 2008-02-12 21:21:38
