KY farmers can now apply for new agriculture exemption number

By Jill Midkiff

Frankfort, KY - The Kentucky Department of Revenue (DOR) is now accepting applications from eligible farmers for new agriculture exemption numbers designed to protect the sales and use tax exclusions available to the agricultural community.

While the statutory provisions for agriculture sales and use tax exemptions have not changed, the new tax ID number requirement will ensure only those who have pre-qualified with DOR are able to claim these exemptions.

Under the provisions of SB 148, enacted by the 2020 General Assembly and signed into law by Gov. Andy Beshear on March 27, 2020, all eligible farmers exempt from sales and use tax for the purchase of certain items must apply for and use their new agriculture exemption number when claiming applicable tax exemptions under KRS 139.481.

Letter: Scam phone call

Sandra Coomer writes:
I received a call from a Columbia number that I answered for business reasons. But the call was an automated call that stated a package had been stopped by Border Patrol that contained contraband. It said it had all my credentials. I was to hold for someone to come on the line to verify my credentials. Which I did not do. I just wanted the public to know of the scam. Thinks like that can totally mess up a person's life.

Letter: Shooting star?

T Morgan writes:
Could it be a shooting star? There were several in the sky a few nights ago due to the alignment of Jupiter & Saturn with Earth. This alignment marks the middle of the best time of the year to see outer planets.
