Adam Michael Edwards of Green County, Kentucky, departed this life on Saturday, August 31, 2019 in Greensburg. He was 31 years and three months of age.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12noonCT September 4, 2019 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Edwards Family Cemetery. Kade Fulkerson officiating. Visitation is requested after 10amCT Wednesday.

Pallbearers: Malaka Horton, Mason Horton, Jeff Edwards, Bryan Fulkerson, Timmy Patterson and James Patterson.

During the past year, the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service has worked to determine ways we can better serve you and together work toward a stronger Kentucky.

Through 31,000 survey responses, 500 focus groups and personal interviews, you have told us about the things you value. Results from these interactions were processed by UK's Community and Economic Development Initiative of Kentucky and Kentucky by the Numbers and are now available to you.

Extension agents and specialists will diligently work during the next few months to bring local individuals and community partners to the table to discuss ways to best address communities' top priorities. We will also be developing programs and plans of work based on your identified priorities and concerns. These programs will roll out during the next program year which begins in July.

ACSO: Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

A Georgia man was arrested on felony drug charges after an early morning traffic stop on Monday, September 2, 2019.

At approximately 1amCT on Monday morning, Adair County Sheriff K-9 Deputy Josh Durbin and KSP Trooper Alan Shirley initiated a traffic stop 4 miles north of Columbia on KY 61N. The stop was on a blue 2004 Chevrolet operated by Juan Mulderuado, 33, of Georgia.

During roadside investigation, it was suspected that narcotics may be in the vehicle. Deputy Durbin deployed his K-9, Nitro. Nitro indicated a positive hit for the odor of narcotics and as a result methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were located in the vehicle.

KY man accused of riding Wal-Mart shopping cart drunk

A Corbin man was charged after he allegedly was operating a Wal-Mart motorized cart while intoxicated. The sheriff's office was sent Friday to apartments off Felts School Road, around 12 miles south of London, over reports that a man was allegedly intoxicated while riding the cart around the apartments, the sheriff's office said.

When deputies arrived, they found an intoxicated 39-year-old Steve Eaton on the Wal-Mart cart, according to the sheriff.

KSP: Columbia man sentenced to 23.5 years in prison

On Tuesday, August 27, 2019, Joshua David Gayde, age 36 of Columbia, appeared in Adair Circuit Court and was sentenced after entering a guilty plea to nine charges involving sex crimes against a minor child that occurred between January 2014 and December 2017.

Gayde pled guilty to four counts of First-Degree Rape involving a child under 12 years old and five counts of First-Degree Sexual Abuse involving a child under 12 years old.

Pursuant to the plea agreement Gayde will serve a total of 23.5 years in the state penitentiary. Upon his release from prison Gayde will be required to register as a lifetime sex offender on the Kentucky State Sex Offender Registry.

The investigation in this case was led by Kentucky State Police Detective Nick Davis.

Mom thanks hospital for aid after roadside delivery

Theresa and Chad Cissell often joked about having a home birth, but they got more than they bargained for when Theresa went into labor en route to the hospital, ultimately giving birth in the middle of the night on the side of a busy highway. A few weeks after a traumatic birth, Theresa Cissell and daughter, Leonora Rae, are doing just fine.

Kathy A. Crew, 46, Liberty, KY (1973-2019)

Kathy A. Crew of Liberty passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2019, at Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset, having attained the age of 46.

The funeral service will be held at 2pmET on Thursday, September 5, 2019, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville St, Liberty, KY. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Contown Cemetery.

September is National Preparedness Month

Frankfort, KY - The Kentucky Department for Public Health (DPH), within the Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS), is reminding the public that households, businesses and communities can increase their preparedness by following this year's theme of Prepared, Not Scared. Be Ready for Disasters during September - National Preparedness Month (NPM).

This nationwide effort is organized each year by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to encourage citizens to prepare and plan for emergencies in their homes, business and schools. This yearly observance was founded after 9/11 to increase preparedness awareness in the U.S., a fitting time to join the effort to help communities prepare for emergencies such as natural disasters and to encourage individuals to take action.

Cocanougher reunion celebrates pioneer ancestors

72 of us were delighted to fellowship together with food, stories, laughter, pictures, various recognitions and a GRAND day together. Cocanoughers/Connours from KY, IL, IN, OK, FL, NE were present to celebrate.

After over two centuries the families of two brothers united for a reunion in Perryville KY July 28, 2019 at The American Legion Hall. Jacob & Neley (Eleanor) Silvertooth Cocanougher were settlers in the 1780s of then Mercer County KY in the present day Boyle County Salt River cane brakes between Danville & Perryville. These pioneer settlers moved in the 1790s to Long Run of The Beech Fork near Texas KY. Some of the original 500 acres is still owned and resided on by Bruce Cocanougher. About 1800 John Cocanougher (Connour) moved to IN then IL.

Terry Lee Gadberry, of Liberty, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2019, at his home. He was 58 years of age.

It is better to give than receive

Aaron Branham is having a birthday soon! He will be 14 in September, 2019 and is a freshman at the Adair County High School. This year, Aaron has chosen to celebrate his birthday in a giving--rather than receiving--manner.

Aaron will be having a Sock and Togie Drive through the entire month of September and up until October 11. All sizes for both boys and girls are needed and can be donated at any of the Adair County Schools or can be dropped off at the Chamber of Commerce building.
