Cocanougher reunion celebrates pioneer ancestors 72 of us were delighted to fellowship together with food, stories, laughter, pictures, various recognitions and a GRAND day together. Cocanoughers/Connours from KY, IL, IN, OK, FL, NE were present to celebrate. By Mike Crain After over two centuries the families of two brothers united for a reunion in Perryville KY July 28, 2019 at The American Legion Hall. Jacob & Neley (Eleanor) Silvertooth Cocanougher were settlers in the 1780s of then Mercer County KY in the present day Boyle County Salt River cane brakes between Danville & Perryville. These pioneer settlers moved in the 1790s to Long Run of The Beech Fork near Texas KY. Some of the original 500 acres is still owned and resided on by Bruce Cocanougher. About 1800 John Cocanougher (Connour) moved to IN then IL. Due to deed clerks hearing Connour instead of Cocanougher the name was changed. Through diligent research by Connour descendants particularly Bill Connour and his daughter Kami Voboril in NE this re-connection was made between brothers' families - their IL John and our KY George. 72 of us were delighted to fellowship together with food, stories, laughter, pictures, various recognitions and a GRAND day together. Cocanoughers/Connours from KY, IL, IN, OK, FL, NE were present to celebrate. Recognitions were made by gifts from Bruce Cocanougher's crystal collection to the oldest present Helen Connour Daugherty age 89 of Manttoon IL; the youngest present Grayson Hawkins of Gravel Switch KY; the one who had come the furthest the five in the Connour-Voboril family; and to the Hatchett Family for their many, many years of attendance at the Cocanougher Reunion. Also Felix Reynolds of Lancaster KY made presentations of restored antique tobacco sticks and hand-designed walking sticks - to the oldest man present Denny Cocanougher age 87 of Perryville KY; the oldest male Hatchett Jim Hatchett. Other presentations were made. Thanks to Bruce Cocanougher and Felix Reynolds for these gifts. Also thanks to Bruce for annual gift of fried chicken from the fine cooks at Mordecais, his stories of The Cocanoughers, and his work on The Historic Cocanougher Cemetery on Long Run. Thanks to many others for special help ~ Bill & Kevin Jones sound & copying;ture; Celeste & Matthew Moore for the attached picture; Pat & Stewart Cocanougher, Mike Crain, and many Connours for help setting up and cleaning. Most of ALL ~~ All the GREAT cooks for a delicious meal. lol Please invite family & friends to The 2020 Cocanougher/Connour Reunion on the last Sunday in July annually thus July 26, 2020 at The Perryville American Legion Hall on West US 150 from 11am - 4 pm.
