ACSO: Two-vehicle injury accident on Liberty Rd.

By Sheriff Josh Brockman
Adair County Sheriff's Office

On Tuesday, April 2, 2019, the Adair County Sheriff's Office responded to the 7500 block of Liberty Road for a two vehicle accident with injuries.

A preliminary investigation determined that an East-bound 1994 Freightliner pulling a 2016 B&B 38 foot trailer, operated by Lemuel Gaskin, 74, of Columbia tried to brake to prevent hitting a vehicle stopped in traffic making a left hand turn.

When Gaskin braked, he was unable to control his vehicle, skidding into the West-bound lane, where he struck a West-bound 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe operated by Charles Hicks, 29, of Columbia.

Hick's vehicle continued on, striking a culvert and overturning before landing upright in a field. Hicks was transported by Adair County EMS to T.J Health Columbia, and later flown by Air Med to University of Louisville Hospital for injuries sustained.

Letter: Thanks from Robert

Comments re article 103218 Letter Robert Ellis has done well with cow and calf pictures

By Robert Ellis

Thanks Vicki for your kind words. You had me blushing before I finished my breakfast. I have plans to have those two images printed. I do market my prints online at robertelliswoodworking.com and take them to art festivals when I do shows, selling them right along side my cutting boards.

At the shows I was amazed at the interest in prints, especially in farm scenes, landscapes, etc, but especially when nearly half the sales came from prints. Having teenagers stopping at my booth and staring at a pic of a tractor in a barn...kind of, well left me for a loss of words; a very humbling effect.

DAY TRIP: Rock House Bottom at Creelsboro

To take this day trip from Columbia, take Highway 55 toward Lake Cumberland. About 12 to 15 miles along, crossing from Adair into Russell County, look for highway 1058 and turn right to journey to the one public building left in Creelsboro. Give yourself plenty of time to wind around and down, deep into the past. A community reunion is in the making for this September, 2019, and more information will be coming on that as known. Tentative date is the 14th.

By Linda Waggener

In historic Creelsboro you can stop for a meal, read historical markers or take the road parallel to the river just a ways from the heart of the town and behold one of the grandest natural wonders in Kentucky, the natural arch locals refer to as Rock House Bottom.

The Rock House is located at the water's edge on the Cumberland River below Lake Cumberland and Wolf Creek Dam. At this visit, the river is at one of his highest levels because water from the dam is being released.

Sen. Max Wise's Legislative Update - Tue 2 Apr 2019

Senator Wise reports on final week of the 2019 regular session.
Personal political commentary/opinions of the writer

By State Senator Max Wise, (R-Campbellsville)
16th District: Adair, Clinton, Cumberland, McCreary, Russell, Taylor, and Wayne Counties

After 30 productive legislative days in Frankfort, the Kentucky General Assembly bid farewell to the 153rd Regular Session.

In our final legislative week, the General Assembly saw the ceremonial signing of Senate Bill 1, the pivotal bipartisan measure to enhance school safety. Also known as the School Safety and Resiliency Act, SB 1 was widely considered as the highest-legislative priority of the 2019 Regular Session by both the House and the Senate. While no legislation is perfect, when it concerns the well-being of our students, inaction is not an option. This collaborative measure is a step in the right direction, and I look forward to addressing these school safety provisions further in the 2020 budget session.

Discussion on pension reform was an immense priority this week. With the passage of House Bill 358, the Senate acted to help Kentucky's regional universities and "quasi-governmental" agencies, like health departments and mental health boards that have struggled to meet their employer pension contributions.
