LWC Baseball hosts Bryan on Wednesday

The Lindsey Wilson baseball team hosts Bryan (TN) for a solo matchup on Wednesday afternoon slated for a 4pmCT start from Egnew Park, Lindsey Wilson Sports Complex, 928 Russell Road, Columbia, KY.

The Blue Raiders (7-20, 2-7 in the Mid-South Conference) are returning to play after dropping two games in a three-game series against MSC opponent Pikeville (KY) on Thursday and Friday.


LWC fell in game one 7-5 and were able to turn around in game two to take the game 15-10 before dropping game three 12-6.

During game two, Austin Rayno led the Blue Raider bats with three consecutive home runs. Rayno began the hot streak with a solo run before knocking out a grand slam and a three-run homer. Rayno finished the night with career-high eight RBI's as well.

Derek Marrufo leads the team with a .369 batting average. Marrufo has connected for 24 hits, nine RBI's, four doubles and three home runs.

Austin Rayno leads the team in hits with 29 on the season. Rayno also leads in runs scored (23) and has managed three home runs this season while batting .293.

Steven Calderon is the team leader for runs batted in (25), home runs (6), and doubles (9). Calderon has also tallied 28 hits and has recorded 20 runs as well.

Francisco Arias has recorded a team-leading three wins this season on the bump adding 16 strikeouts and a 4.61 ERA in 13.2 innings of work. CJ Lent, Ethan Escue, Vincent Boils, and Kelvin Guzman have all been able to snag a victory as well. Guzman is the strikeout leader, recording 28 strikeouts in 31.1 innings pitched.

Escue has seen the mound the most for Lindsey Wilson, putting in 34 innings of work. Escue has tallied 20 strikeouts and has managed a 5.29 ERA.

Bryan (22-11, 9-6 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference) visits Columbia, Ky. after dropping two of three games against AAC opponent Point (Ga.). The Lions fell in game one 12-7 before winning game two 12-6. As for game three, Bryan fell 15-1 to close out the series.

So far this season, Lake Burris leads the Bryan offensive efforts with a .324 batting average while recording for 36 hits, 41 RBI's and 16 home runs.

Bryan has tallied seven student-athletes with double-digit RBI's this season, all of which have recorded 20+ RBI's.

Joseph Cuomo has seen the most time on the bump for the Lions, pitching for 40.0 innings. Cuomo has managed a 6.08 ERA and leads the team with 47 strikeouts.

Dalton Ross has the lowest ERA on the team (1.37) in 26.1 innings worth of work, throwing 34 strikeouts in his time on the mound.

Lindsey Wilson last met Bryan at Egnew Park back on March 8, 2017, where the Blue Raiders were defeated by the Lions 7-6. Both teams have met only six times prior to Wednesday's meeting with the overall series tied up at 3-3.
