Lindsey Wilson College fall semester officially begins By Venus Popplewell The Lindsey Wilson College 2018-2019 school year officially began at 8 a.m., Tuesday morning. That is when the LWC campus community gathered on the campus quadrangle to ring the alumni victory bell to open fall classes. It is estimated more than 600 new freshmen enrolled at LWC for the 2018-19 academic school year and nearly 1,100 will be housed in the campus residence halls. 100 years ago today, 21 Aug 1918: The Great War in Adair Co. By JIM By the latter part of August, 1918, the tide of World War I had turned in favor of the Allied Powers but the outcome of the conflict remained far from certain. Several war-related items found their way to the front page of the August 21 edition of the News. Once such news piece came in form of an announcement that the 24th, a Saturday, "has been fixed by Provost Marshal General Crowder for all youths to register who have reached 21 years year of age since June 5," the date of the most recent registration. Continued the article, "The purpose is to add quickly to the almost exhausted Class 1 to meet army draft calls for September." Authorities expected 150,000 young men across the nation to appear. Screwdriver in ignition of vehicle leads to investigation, arrest Investigation occurred during after Trooper Dexter Colvin responded to a report of a one-vehicle non-injury accident. Twenty-eight year old Stanford, KY resident allegedly said that the screwdriver in the ignition switch was like that when she got the vehicle, which she was moving at the request of the brother of the owner. But the owner, according to the report, said the vehicle was stolen. The driver was arrested and lodged in the Marion County Detention Center facing several charges. NOTE: An arrest is not a finding of guilt. An individual placed under arrest is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding.
