By JIM

By the latter part of August, 1918, the tide of World War I had turned in favor of the Allied Powers but the outcome of the conflict remained far from certain. Several war-related items found their way to the front page of the August 21 edition of the News.

Continued the article, "The purpose is to add quickly to the almost exhausted Class 1 to meet army draft calls for September." Authorities expected 150,000 young men across the nation to appear. In Adair County, registration would be held in Columbia from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m.

Comment About: Remembering Vietnam Vet Jerry Lomax six years after his death

Joyce M Coomer writes:
I hope everyone reads this article and researches in-depth the health problems that are caused by anything used to kill plants and insects. The health problems caused by these toxins are much more wide-spread and identifiable than any government entity or manufacturer will admit to. - Joyce M Coomer
Thanks, Joyce Coomer - Then it was the Federal government poisoning our troops. Now our kids are subjected to poisons by seemingly all levels of local governments. Hope others will comment on this. Comments are welcome. - EW
