By Linda Waggener

Business - commerce - economy, these are areas I've come to love, especially small business.

With jobs scarce in rural areas, many who wish to stay here have to turn their skills into a business of their own in order to make a living. Columbia is enjoying a surge of small business development. Young entrepreneurs would be helped if they could have support in the process of starting and running a business.

Sycamore Springs: Taught August fogs predicted February snows

About: Fog a factor today - Larry Smith Fog Log predicts Snow Days

By Cynthia Meyer

My Mom and Dad always said for every fog you have in August there would be snow in the month of February.

The folklore never said just how much snow for each days snow, just that we would be getting it in February.

They also followed the saying "Thunder in the fall: no winter at all" which was supposed to warn us of the severity of .the winter weather to come. Now we wait for the forecast from the persimmons.
