Mr. Rodney Cross, Taylor County, KY (1960-2016)

Mr. Cross professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Good Hope Baptist Church. He installed floor tile, and was a talented singer and cook. He enjoyed barbequing, gardening, hunting and fishing, and was a leading example to kids as a little league soccer and baseball coach.

Mr. Rodney Cross, 56, of Campbellsville, KY, departed this life on Friday, December 16, 2016 at the Taylor Regional Hospital after a brief illness.

There will be a funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Cross on Friday, December 23, 2016 at 6pmCT/7pmET,in the chapel of the L.R. Petty Funeral Home, 1765 New Columbia Road, Campbellsville, KY. Rev. J. Alvin Hardy will be officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, December 23, 2016, from 3pmCT/4pmET, until time for the service. Mr. Cross will be cremated after the funeral and his ashes will be laid to rest in the Campbellsville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, 700 Old U.S. 68, Campbellsville, KY, at a later date.

Lowell Thomas Lee, 82, Knob Lick, KY (1934-2016)

He was a member of the Antioch Cumberland Presbyterian Church, former operator of Lee's Lime service, and retired from the Department of Transportation of 27 years as a Vehicle Enforcement Officer. He was the patriarch of a very large, highly regarded North Metcalfe County, KY family. He was the son of the late Owen & Florene Chapman Lee. His wife, Mary Margaret Harlow, survives. He leaves 20 direct living descendants.

Laura Lee Smith Butler, Cumberland Co., KY (1943-2016)

She was a highly respected community leader. She was a member of Burkesville First United Methodist Church. She received her bachelors degree and masters degree from Western Kentucky University and received her Ph.D in dietetics and nutrition from University of Tennessee Knoxville. After several years as a dietitian she became involved in the management of Smith Pharmacy, Inc. until 2008. She was a former member of the Cumberland County Library Board, and the Cumberland County Womens Club. She was the daughter of the late Randolph Nunnelly Smith & Winton Simpson Smith. Her husband, Doug Butler survives. She leaves six direct living descendants.

Mrs. Thelma Nora Roy, 88, Adair County, KY (1928-2016)

Mrs. Roy was a member of the West 80 Church of God in Russell Springs, KY and was a homemaker. She was the matriarch of a widely respected East Adair County, KY family. She was the daughter of the late Austin and Frieda Brickler Wilson and the widow of James O. Roy. She leaves 13 direct living descendants.

Update: Big Dawg reports latest on ID of body found in Adair Co.

The Big Dawg has learned from a reliable source that officials do not believe the man whose remains were found by the side of the intersection of Campbellsville Road and the Adair County Bypass on Monday is from Adair County.

Indications are that he was from Lexington, KY. No other details are available at this time. FM 99.9 The Big Dawg, FM 92.7 the Wave, and ColumbiaMagazine.com will keep everyone updated with the latest on the case as soon as it can be reliably reported.

Eight week exam prep course of electricians starts 10 Jan 2017

Local Electrical Inspector Chris Bennett will be hosting a 8 week exam prep class for Electricians that are interested in taking their master or journeyman electricians test. This class is for people who have been employed in the electrical trade under a licensed electrician's supervision or have completed a 2 year degree program from KCTCS in an electrical field and want to become a licensed electrician. The cost of the class will be $15 to cover educational materials that will be given out by the instructor. The instructor will receive no pay for teaching this class.

The class will be held at Adair County High School's Vocational Agricultural building that is behind the main building located at 526 Indian Drive, Columbia KY. Classes begin January 10, 2017 at 5:30pmCT. Students will need a copy of the 2014 National Electrical Code, scratch paper and a calculator.
