Laura Lee Smith Butler, Cumberland Co., KY (1943-2016)

She was a highly respected community leader. She was a member of Burkesville First United Methodist Church. She received her bachelors degree and masters degree from Western Kentucky University and received her Ph.D in dietetics and nutrition from University of Tennessee Knoxville. After several years as a dietitian she became involved in the management of Smith Pharmacy, Inc. until 2008. She was a former member of the Cumberland County Library Board, and the Cumberland County Womens Club. She was the daughter of the late Randolph Nunnelly Smith & Winton Simpson Smith. Her husband, Doug Butler survives. She leaves six direct living descendants.

Laura Lee Smith Butler age 73 of Burkesville, KY passed away on Monday, December 19, 2016 at Cumberland County Hospital, Burkesville, KY.

Funeral service will be Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 1pmCT, at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home, 304 N Main Street, Burkesville, KY with Rev. R. Thomas Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Marrowbone Cemetery. Family requests visitation on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 from 5pm until 9pmCT at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home.



Laura Lee Smith Butler, Cumberland Co., KY (1943-2016)

Laura Lee was born on July 12, 1943 in Cumberland County, KY. She was the daughter of the late Randolph Nunnelly Smith and Winton Simpson Smith. She died Monday, December 19, 2016, in Burkesville, Cumberland County, KY, at the age of 73 years, five months, and seven days.

She was a member of Burkesville First United Methodist Church. Laura Lee received her bachelors degree and masters degree from Western Kentucky University and received her Ph.D in dietetics and nutrition from University of Tennessee Knoxville. After several years as a dietitian she became involved in the management of Smith Pharmacy, Inc. until 2008. She was a former member of the Cumberland County Library Board, and the Cumberland County Womens Club. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one son, Randy Butler.

Survivors include:
  • Her husband: Doug Butler of Burkesville, KY

  • One son: Bill Butler and his wife Elesha of Rineyville, KY

  • Daughter-in-law: Dawn Butler of Edgewood, KY

  • Sister-in-law: Betty Norris and her husband Ted of Glasgow, KY

  • Five grandchildren: Jacob Butler, Laura Elizabeth Butler, Keeley Butler, Andrew Butler, and Peyton Butler

  • Special Caregiver: Stephanie Anderson

  • and a host of other relatives and friends
