Estill Hamilton, 83, Metcalfe County, KY (1932-2016)

He retired from the Edmonton Toll Plaza and was one of the founding fathers of the Edmonton Worship Center were he served as trustee and sung in the church choir. He served in the United States Army from May 19, 1955 until April 30, 1957. His wife of 58 years, Novella Hamilton, survives

Driver injured in single vehicle accident on Knob Lick Road

Driver transported to TJ Regional Hospital by Barren/Metcalfe EMS

EDMONTON, KY - (Mon 18 Apr 2016) - Tpr. Nick Davis is investigating a collision that occurred today at approximately 12amCT on Knob Lick Road, Edmonton, KY. 26-year-old Dewey Reece, of Center KY, was operating a northbound 1991 Chevy pickup on Knob Lick road when it traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned.

Reece was not belted and was transported to TJ Samson Hospital, Glasgow, Ky, for treatment of injuries. Trooper Davis was assisted at the scene by Barren/Metcalfe County EMS and Metcalfe County Fire Department.

The two bicycle riders hit by a car this past weekend are lucky to be alive, the cardiologist killed riding his bike in Bourbon county Sunday wasn't so lucky.
BR> These recent incidents bring to light the danger of riding bicycles on public roads in traffic. Under Ky KRS laws bicycles have the same right of way (except on limited access interstates) as autos on public roads, but all too often when accidents occur auto drivers are frequently at fault.

Ora Gadberry, 82, Casey Co., KY (1933-2016)

She was a homemaker and member of the Ferndale Baptist Church. She was a former Sunday school teacher and took care of the birthday fund at church. She loved to garden and crochet. She was a native of Casey County, KY, and a resident of the county at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late John Jacob Smith and Mary Ellis Dick Smith, and the widow of Preston Taylor Gadberry. She leaves five direct living descendants.

Campbellsville Middle School fourth-graders experienced Kentucky's legislature up close and personal recently. On Tuesday, April 12, the students traveled to Frankfort to tour the current and old capitol buildings and the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History.

Students began their day at the Old State Capitol and saw firsthand how the building was used to conduct legislative meetings.

While on the former House of Representatives and Senate floors, students got to sit where state senators and representatives did when the building was in use, from 1830 to 1910.

Brian Kelly Doss, 46, Columbia, KY (1969-2016)

He was a member of a highly regarded family centered around Pellyton in NE Adair County, KY. He was a member of Egypt Christian Church, was a meat specialist for Kroger in Campbellsville, KY; and a former employee of Kentucky Department of Transportation. He was the son of Gerald G. Doss and Lillie M. Giles Pike, both of whom survive, and the husband of Carolyn Biggs Doss, who also survives. He leaves two direct living descendants, sons Jacob Doss and Adam Doss, both of Columbia, KY.

Lou Edith Jones, 99, Cumberland Co., KY (1916-2016)

She was a lifelong member of the White Hill United Methodist Church near Breeding, KY. Her long, inspirational life was completed just 28 days short of 100 years. Lou Edith Jones was a helpmate to her husband in their farming operation. She loved gardening and sharing her fresh garden vegetables with her family and friends. She was a lifelong member of the White Hill United Methodist Church and treasurer of the White Hill Cemetery Board. Her dream was to accumulate enough funds for the cemetery so that it could be maintained from the interest it earned. She was the widow of Richard Godfrey Jones. She leaves 13 direct descendants.

WKU professor tracing the ancestry of dung beetles

BOWLING GREEN, KY - One of the largest and most important groups of dung beetles in the world evolved from a single common ancestor and relationships among the various lineages are now known, according to new research by an entomologist from Western Kentucky University.

The study by T. Keith Philips, recently published in the open access journal, Zookeys, is providing important insights into the evolution and diversity of this group of dung beetles, which make up about half of the world's dung beetle species.

As far as I'm concerned, the trees are suited to the site, esp. when you compare their size to the size of the courthouse -- they do not need removed, just taken care of. (However, that poor tree in the flower bed needs a respectful funeral.)

COLUMBIA, KY - The Lindsey Wilson men's and women's golf teams start their postseason schedule as they compete at the Mid-South Conference Championships, Monday through Wednesday at the Bowling Green Country Club, 251 Beech Bend Road, Bowling Green, KY 42101. Action starts at 8amCT, today.

The last competition for both the men's and women's teams was at the Mid-South Conference Spring Tournament two weeks ago. The men's team finished in second place out of nine teams, while the women finished in third out of nine teams.

Russell Springs, KY man arrested after collision with cyclists

CPD alleges several charges, including DUI, against 59-year-old driver of 2002 Chrysler car after two cyclists struck on Fairground Street Sunday afternoon. Both cyclists treated on the scene, taken to TJ/Columbia, and later airlifted to the the University of Louisville Medical Center. Driver of car lodged in Adair County Regional Jail, Columbia, KY. Accident remains under investigation

Columbia Police Department was dispatched to Fairground Street to a reported collision between a vehicle and bike, on Sunday, April 17, 2016.

Upon arrival it was found that a vehicle had struck two cyclists on their bikes in the eastbound lane of travel.
