Fire completely engulfs residence on Powell Creek Road

This residence owned by William & Ruth Bryant was completely engulfed in fire when firefighters from the Adair County Fire Department responded this morning, Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 7:59amCT. The structure was a total loss. No one was home at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire is undisclosed at this time. Donald Hare

Powell Creek Road fire completely engulfs residence

News from the Adair County Fire Department.

The Adair County Fire Department responded to 2395 Powell Road for a residential house fire Saturday morning January 16, 2016 at 7:59amCT.

Upon firefighters arrival they found a residential structure fully engulfed in fire. Property was owned by William and Ruth Bryant. There was no one home at the time and the home was a total loss.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. There were 21 firemen on the scene for 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Mildred (Millie) Wright Milby, Green Co., KY 1929-2016)

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. She was a seamstress for the former American Needle Craft, was employed with Clark Casual and was a homemaker. She was the daughter of the late Sam Wrightand Virgie Berry Wright. She was the widow of Clell Milby, her husband of over 54 years. She leaves 27 direct living descendants.

Mrs. Mildred "Millie" Wright Milby of Greensburg, Kentucky, daughter of the late Sam Wright and Virgie Berry Wright, was born on March 24, 1929 in Green County, Kentucky, and departed this life on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at her home in Greensburg. She was 86 years, 9 months, and 21 days of age.

The funeral services for Mrs. Mildred "Millie" Wright Milby will be conducted at 2pmCT, Sunday, January 17, 2016 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S Main Street, Greensburg, KY, with burial to follow in the Wilson Cemetery. Bro. Scott Coates, and Bro. Jon Hargan will be officiating. Visitation is requested from 3pmCT until 8pmCT, Saturday, January 16, 2016, at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home and after 7amCT, Sunday until time of the funeral service. Pallbearers will be grandchildren and great grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be nieces and nephews.

She was a member of Hutchison Community Church and retired from Osh Kosh B'Gosh after 30 plus years. She was the matriarch of an highly regarded family. She was a native of Adair County, the daughter of the late Willie and Gladys Corbin Harmon. Her husband, John Shirley, survives. She leaves 19 direct living descendants.

Next Steps In Selection Process for KSP Commissioner

Frankfort, KY - Justice Secretary John Tilley today announced the next steps in the process for hiring a new Kentucky State Police (KSP) Commissioner.

"Because of the high interest in this position and our desire to be thoughtful, thorough and fully transparent in our search, we want to make public what our next steps will be," said Secretary Tilley. "As a former prosecutor, I have always had the highest admiration for the Kentucky State Police and the vital roles they serve across the Commonwealth and within the Justice Cabinet."

After reviewing applications received by the transition team, the Administration has assembled a list of highly qualified candidates. A seven-member search committee will interview all candidates and submit names to Governor Bevin for consideration.

Lindsey Burd's career night leads Lady Tigers past Cumberlands

Campbellsville, KY - Lindsey Burd dropped a new career-high 39 points and No. 2 Campbellsville Lady Tiger Basketball extended their home win-streak to 21 games tonight with a 77-55 win over University of the Cumberlands.

Burd, who finished hitting 14-of-22 from the floor and 11-of-13 from the free thrown line, scored the most points in a game since two-time NAIA Player of the Year Whitney Ballinger scored 40 against Loyola University on Jan. 2, 2010. Ballinger holds the record with Jackie Prather (1990) as the most points scored in a game at 48.
