Lindsey Burd's career night leads Lady Tigers past Cumberlands By Jordan Alves CU sports information director Campbellsville, KY - Lindsey Burd dropped a new career-high 39 points and No. 2 Campbellsville Lady Tiger Basketball extended their home win-streak to 21 games tonight with a 77-55 win over University of the Cumberlands. Burd, who finished hitting 14-of-22 from the floor and 11-of-13 from the free thrown line, scored the most points in a game since two-time NAIA Player of the Year Whitney Ballinger scored 40 against Loyola University on Jan. 2, 2010. Ballinger holds the record with Jackie Prather (1990) as the most points scored in a game at 48. Campbellsville (16-3, 4-1 MSC) went on a 15-0 run through the first and second quarters and jumped to a 24-7 lead before Cumberlands (7-7, 0-4 MSC) could recover. The Patriots cut the lead to 9-7 with 3:49 remaining in the first quarter but would not score again until the same mark in the second quarter. During that stretch, Campbellsville held Cumberlands scoreless on 12 attempts from the floor before Jovana Stojovic drilled the lone 3-pointer of the half for the Patriots to cut the Lady Tiger lead, 24-10. Burd was the the star for Campbellsville, as Cumberlands did not have an answer in the paint for the senior from Hardyville, Ky. She scored 20 of her 39 points in the first half. Burd also finished with a team-high nine rebounds. Campbellsville used its defense to turn into offense in the first half. The Lady Tigers forced 10 first-half turnovers and picked up seven steals to take a 40-18 lead at halftime. Cumberlands finished with 17 turnovers throughout the game. Cumberlands was able to recover in the third quarter, outscoring Campbellsville 13-5 in the first three-plus minutes. But even though the Patriots cut the lead to 14, 45-31, Campbellsville got hot once again, going on a 12-5 run and pushing its lead back to 21 points, 57-36. The lead would never get under 20 points again. Outside of Burd's 39 points, Campbellsville scoring was even across the board. Madison Kaiser finished with nine points, Emily Fox recorded eight, LeeAnn Grider, Jordan Doram and Lexxus Graham all scored six and Abby Miller finished with three to lead the Lady Tigers. Cumberlands was playing without its second-leading scorer, as Lydia Box was dismissed from the team after Christmas break. Cheyenne Madden scored 14 points and LaTeesha DeLoach finished with 12 to pace the Patriots. Campbellsville dominated the game all the way around. CU hit 53 percent (26-of-49) from the floor and 6-of-11 (55 percent) from 3. CU also hit 73 percent (19-of-26) from the free throw line. Cumberlands on the other hand hit on 37 percent from the field, 35 percent from the 3-point line and 30 percent from the charity stripe. The Lady Tigers also out-rebounded Cumberlands 42-23. Campbellsville win now entertain No. 17 University of Pikeville on Saturday. The Lady Tigers put their 11-game season win streak and 21-straight home win streak on the line with the doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. ET. Fans can follow the action on the CU Sports Network.
