Rodney L. Thompson, Sr. might have driven Izetta on sidewalk

Rodney L Thompson, Sr writes:
If you remember I had the privilege of driving the Izetta, on occasions, while working for the Waggener family delivering the Courier-Journal. If I remember correctly if it was extremely early in the morning we would, on occasions, drive it on the sidewalk, this made delivery of the CJ faster. I cannot remember if I had a drivers license or not, I know Ralph Roy did not. --Rodney L ThompsonSr

Student Technology Leadership Program and AP computer science students, with teacher Sonya Kessler, taught Campbellsville Middle School fourth-graders in Kaye Agathen's social studies class about computer coding.

Ralph Waggener: Neal Gold did our coding 37 years ago

Comments on: Entire Adair School District will participate in 'Hour of Code'

By Ralph Roy Waggener

When Glinda and I started South Central Printing, Inc. 36 years ago, we did incorporate 37 years ago this month, we got Neal Gold to write Code for us.

Back then we bought two Apple computers. The fast one ran at about 16.5 Gigs and the slow one ran at 7.5 Gigs and we marveled at how much faster the big one ran!

Today, this would be funny compared to the the speeds we run at today.

Encore Classic: Gordon Crump - 'How I discovered Columbia . . . '

A Masterpiece a Must Re-Read for Lindsey Wilson Events: 'Someday I must go back to Lindsey Hill.' A must read for Lindsey Wilson Students, Alumni, Friends. About Columbia and Lindsey Wilson in the early 1940's, 29 April 1970. It's an essay considered by many to the the best or one of the best ever posted on ColumbiaMagazine.com, written by Gordon Crump and first posted
We post this story often. It was last on the front page of the site when Lindsey Wilson reopened its school year in August, 2010. Accolades continue to come to us. While researching Cranmer Dining center for her Adair County High School Class of '55, 55th class reunion, Annette Richards accidentally found this story, first posted on CM. "It is a masterpiece," she said. "I'm not an alum," she said, "but I couldn't hold back the tears reading Mr. Crump's story. They were happy tears. A connection, knowing that he had those feelings about my hometown. When we hold our class reunion at Lindsey, I'll step over to that side of the campus to share the feeling he had when he looked out over Columbia." We agree with Ms. Richards. The memory is a masterpiece. Mr. Crump still lives in the Clay Ridge section of Adair County. He's a member at the Clay Ridge Grocery; messages and well wishes can be left for him there when the store is open, in case you miss him when you visit. -ED WAGGENER

Not in this particular case but in my past life as a, sort of, liaison between the forest and a not so informed public, I've responded to many "my pine tree's needles are turning brown, is it dying" calls.

While taking pictures of this beautiful Bald Cypress near Downtown Columbia many of those human/tree interface situations came rushing back to me. One in particular stands out in my mind.
