Letter: Wants to see more Christmas Cards on the Square

Jamie Isabelle writes:
As I drive around the square it's sad to see no where near the amount of Christmas cards as there were crazy scarecrows. It seems that Halloween was a more important holiday than Christmas, The birth of our Lord. I truly hope by Christmas day more people will add to the collection. Merry Christmas! --Jamie Isabelle

Jon Halsey: Agrees with Mayor Hardwick on Wet-Dry vote

Jon Halsey writes:
I totally agree with the Mayor's sentiments.
As a county resident, I have always been in favor of a county wide vote. However, in this instance, the latest decision will probably doom the latest effort for a first step to failure. Once again, the short sightedness and lack of long term thinking continue to restrain change. What was the problem with having two petitions, one for the City and when that secured enough petitions, start a second petition for the County to also be on the ballot? - Jon Halsey

CJE makes statement on PAC change to countywide

"As the Chief Financial Officer of Adair County it is my position to support all the people and many have expressed their wishes to be represented in this issue and I concur. It is the right thing to do, success without integrity and transparency to the public is not true success, and I base my position on these noted statements:
  • To provide an election that will give the citizens of Adair County the right to vote and the opportunity to choose whether they are for or against the sale of alcoholic beverages
  • An effort for Adair County to improve economic development opportunities, attract new business and industry, support existing businesses and increase revenue sources, whereas, currently all responsibility and paying of bills for the county rest solely on the taxpayer's back
  • The citizens of Adair County are going to pay for this election and they should have a voice
  • Recognizing Adair County being a "dry" county does not mean alcoholic beverages do not exist - they are just being purchased in other counties that are "wet" and those counties are collecting the revenues
From CJE Michael Lee Stephens"

Mayor Hardwick issues statement on PAC changing course

PAC changes course: Going for countywide wet-dry.
Statement follows decision by Progress in Adair to change the Wet-Dry vote from City only to Countywide.

Columbia Mayor Curtis Hardwick makes statement:
There was a group of people that got this started. We all agreed that city is where it needed to be because it has a better chance of passing. There was a lot of excitement in the fact that the city could go wet. After this latest change by PAC has gotten out, I have people come to me with concerns that it won't pass countywide. My biggest problem with the move is all the work that several people have done for the city to go wet, , all the people that donated money for the city to go wet, and all the people that started this thing and worked for this who were not involved in the decision to make the change. - Curtis Hardwick, Mayor, City of Columbia, KY.
Statement dated December 10, 2015
