KY Afield Outdoors: Young wildlife best left undisturbed By Kevin Kelly Frankfort, KY - Encounters with young wildlife increase in spring as people spend more time outdoors. An unattended deer fawn curled up in tall grass. A litter of rabbits discovered alone in the backyard. A baby bird furiously flapping its wings but struggling to get off the ground. It's human nature to want to take matters into your own hands in such instances. After all, we see and read stories about firefighters rescuing kittens from burning houses or technical rescue teams saving horses and livestock that have fallen into icy ponds. In nature, however, human intervention is not always what is best for wildlife. Ben Arnold: ATS is our model for economic development Ben Arnold writes: This is just great! Here is our model for economic development; local owned, local profits, local good jobs and no government incentives, etc or profit stream to some other state or country. Let's just provide the infrastructure and get out of the way of progress. We are fortunate to have Rob and Ken in our Columbia/Adair community. Where can we find some more like these? But what incentive is the City government going to give to keep the in-town branch in town? --Ben ArnoldComments re photo 60602 Assisted Transportation Systems expands again 2015-06-04 12:24:22 | Comments | Printable version

Guy Babin: The Quest for a Man Cat Astounding proposal from this emigrant from the swampland of Louisiana, who arrived on the shores of Cool Springs Creek yearning to breathe free, and has done ready come up the one of the greatest idea yet to bring fame and bragging rights to Gradyville, KY. The Man Cat.Maybe bigger than when "Jerdan" Peacock (Jordan Peacock) made Gradyville the World Equine Capitol. Maybe bigger than the Richie Janes' invention of "Make-Your-Fortune-Raising-Beef-with-a-Smart Dog," (Freddie Rowe does the same thing with a Smart-Phone on the other side of the county) maybe even bigger than Woodson Nell's work making Gradyville the U.S. Turnip Capitol: We can see it now: Tourists from everywhere coming through Columbia, inquiring of the wonderful Downtown Docents: Where Do I Go to Get My Man Cat? And they'll need to give only one answer: Gradyville! Click on headline for complete description of this Marvelous Animal. By Guy Babin There are all kinds of cats out there . . . Long haired, short hairs, fancy pedigreed cats, mangy cats, alley cats, finicky cats, snobby cats that only like girls, cats that have to be inside, cats that refuse to eat anything but "gourmet" food--ya get the drift. What I need on my small piece of paradise in Gradyville, is a bona fide man cat. This cat is cool with hanging out with me in the shop. He'd need to know better than to poop in my boot, or nap on the manifold of my Chevy. Not overly dependent for emotional support, he'd also have to be cool with a hello in the morning and some quality time in the man cave with me next to my keyboard before supper in the eve.
