Anita Rees: Adair Co Ambulance Service responded quickly

Anita Rees writes:

I'd just like to thank the Adair Co. Ambulance service for responding so quickly this morning. I fell off the stairs in the house and hit my head on the tile floor. I was unconscious and bleeding. Mark called and the ambulance was here within 25 minutes, which is great time considering how far out we live. The ER staff at the Westlake were all very nice too, and were able to see me pretty much right away. Thanks everyone! --Anita Rees

Guy Babin: Comment on Mitzi Bault photo editorial

Guy Babin writes:
I agree, The litter really is depressing.

The beer cans are expelled by those imbibing while driving lest they get stopped with empty containers--dry county or not. While I see their "reasoning" I can't stand their carelessness and disregard for public safety and pride in community. Then there are the McDonalds/Burger King types who have no worries for empty food container residue in their ride from law enforcement, but who value the cleanliness of their ride more than the beauty of our county.

I want to help. I want to make a difference. Paradise USA with discarded human waste, really isn't quite paradise is it? -Guy Babin, Gradyville, USA

Thanks, GRAS and Sugarfoot for Happy Endings stories

Sometimes they occur as front page, best of the day news. Sometimes they are played out in CM Classifieds. The stories of dogs' lives on CM. A few readers comment that "CM has gone to the dogs" because of the prevalence of dog pictures on the magazine. But, hey, folks, this is a small town, a community where everybody knows everybody's name - we hope - and if we know each dog and kitten by name, too, what's wrong with that? Then, two, the animals' stories make my days. Happy endings are my favorite reading. - EW

Special CM Story

There are several Happy Endings - dogs reunited with their families and adoption(s) for dogs CM Readers are following in CM Animals Classifieds, almost every day.

Today, several have been reported. Kim Sallee of Green River Animal Shelter writes that four dogs advertised with the caption, "Hey Folks, they got me/us at the pound," were reclaimed within the five days we post them. And Peg Schaeffer sends a letter that the little Chihuahua, "Kitty" a reluctant surrender from a terminal cancer patient, has a new, furever home.

Carol Perkins: Welcome to the world baby girl

By Carol Perkins

Welcome to the world baby girl. You come with a mother and a father and starting this year, you, and all other newborns, come with a full-time therapist. She (He) is the one with the clipboard, watching over the nurses as they tend to you in the nursery. This therapist will stay with you until you are out of high school. Then he/she will be recycled to another newborn. This is part of a wellness plan to help you grow up to be well adjusted and productive.

Why might you need a therapist? According to experts, the first three years of your life are the most important. A resident therapist will keep your well-meaning parents from messing up. Your mother and father love you, but they don't necessarily know how to keep from inflicting their (and others) personalities and emotions and habits and actions on you. After all, the new will wear off and then you will be treated like all other members of the family, which could be good or bad.

Billy Joe Fudge: Comment of City Mayoral Election issues

Personal Commentary

By Billy Joe Fudge

I recently had the pleasure of sitting through the hearing concerning the integrity of the city of Columbia's election which was before Judge Vance.

Oh yes, the proceedings wore on at a snail's pace but that is just how the wheels of justice roll, laboriously slow but they roll, and in the end, that is all that matters.

I would love to say that I came away from the proceedings extremely proud of the judicial process and the manner in which both "sides", if you will, presented their cases. Local folks discussing matters of great Constitutional importance can sometimes let emotions overcome good judgment. However, each of the parties conducted themselves with professionalism and with a soft and caring, neighborly demeanor.

By Peg Schaeffer

We have a lot of good dogs here, some great dogs, and some dogs I'd pay you to take. One of our problem children is Sadie. She is a hog fat black Labrador Retriever mix. Her owners called and said they had adopted her from a shelter and that she was too much for them to handle. The day they brought her here she was on a leash and was dragging them up the hill. They brought her in the gate, unhooked the leash and she never looked back. She was excited to see the other dogs and began playing with them immediately.

Five Years and Going Around Again

I'm sitting in The Bookstore trying to figure out just what to write about for this week. I've got about three books on tap that I want to write about. I haven't finished a couple of them and cannot, for the life of me, get my head around another. It comes to me that I have been at this for five years -- beginning February 20, 2005.

Thunk I, let's go back to the start.
