Mrs. Linnie Pearl Manis Wells, Cumberland Co., KY (1926-2014)

She was a member of Highland Chapel United Methodist Church and attended Dutch Creek Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. She was a seamstress for Sutton Shirt Corporation and Bob Evans Manufacturing and a homemaker. She was a native of Fentress County, TN, and a resident of Cumberland County, KY, at the time of her death. She was the widow of Lowell Ray Wells. She leaves 22 direct living descendants.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 10amCT in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home with Bro. Ronnie Pitcock and Bro. Jimmy Bunch officiating. Burial will be in the Burkesville Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 5pmCT on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 until the funeral hour on Thursday.

Lester Lee Wesley, Casey County, KY (1950-2014)

He was a timber cutter, carpenter, and member of the Ferndale Baptist Church. Lester loved to hunt, fish, and was avid about mules. He was a native of Casey County, KY, and a resident at the time of his death. He was the son of the late William Clarence and Louvernie Gadberry Wesley. His wife of over 26 years, Kim Taylor Wesley, survives. He leaves six direct living descendants

Board will award construction bid to lowest bidder, after all

Update, new information just in changes this story:School Board approves big project construction, demolition bids.
Board will revisit construction award after learning that Federal guidelines allow the award to go to the bidder with the lowest total, not the lowest base bid. A one week delay will mean savings of $83,254, Supt. Reed says. Demolition contract not affected; demolition of JAIS and CWC buildings should begin next week

After clarification of Federal Guidelines, with State Officials and Officials at Lake Cumberland Area Development District, Architect Gabe Jones called with some very favorable news for the Adair County School: The award for the construction of the satellite campus and canopies can go to the firm with the lowest combined bid, Superintendent Alan W. Reed said in a call at 3:25pmCT, Monday, June 30, 2014.

Mrs. Parthenia Paxton Humphrey, Green Co., KY (1936-2014)

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Greensburg Presbyterian Church. She was Executive Vice President at Lincoln Federal Savings and Loan. She was the daughter of the late marshall Cleo Beard Paxton, and the widow of John Humphrey.

Dallas Hatter, Casey County, KY (1940-2014

He was a retired EMT for the Casey County Ambulance with 19 years of service and a former court security guard at the Casey County Judicial Center for the Casey County Sheriff's Office. He was a member of the Walltown Christian Church, a farmer, and a former Casey County Constable. He loved to fish and enjoyed the Casey County Apple Festival. Dallas was an avid UK Wildcat fan. He was the son of the late Charles Clinton Hatter and Lillie Wall Hatter. His beloved wife of over 55 years, Jean Durham Hatter, survives. He leaves three direct living descendants.

Richard Wayne Williams, 59, Edmonton, KY (d. June 28, 2014)

He was a native of LaRue County, KY, and a resident of Metcalfe County, KY, at the time of his death. He was a graduate of Western Kentucky University where he met his wife of 37 years, Tamara Coffey Williams of Edmonton, KY, who survives. He was a member and deacon of the Edmonton Baptist Church and prior to that was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Myrtle Beach. He leaves five direct living descendants.

KSP investigating Hodgenville, KY Police Chief

Kentucky State Police is currently conducting a criminal investigation on Hodgenville Police Chief, Steven Johnson. On Friday, June 27, 2014, Chief Johnson was charged with Official Misconduct 1st and Hindering Prosecution or apprehension. Johnson will have a 2nd court date in July. ELIZABETHTOWN, KY - Kentucky State Police Post 4 is investigating a single vehicle ATV accident that ocurred on Springfield Rd. just east of Elizabethtown in Hardin Co.

On Monday June 30, 2014 at approximately 12:34amET, David B. Taylor (20) of Elizabethtown was operating his 2009 Honda Rubicon eastbound when he struck a deer that crossed the roadway.

School Board approves big project construction, demolition bids


  • Bids go to second lowest bidders
  • Columbia firm wins JAIS, CWC demolition contract because of experience
  • Scott, Murphy, Daniels wins satellite campus, canopy bid because of lowest base bid, though it's total over $83 thousand higher - because of Federal guidelines.
  • Demolition is to be complete before August 15, 2014
  • Construction projects expected to be complete by mid to early October
  • Vocational classes will proceed with minor schedule changes, Superintendent Reed says, despite later than projected completion of class space

In a fast paced session, this morning, Monday, June 30, 2014, the Adair County Board of Education awarded bids for demolition of John Adair Intermediate School and Col. Casey Elemetary School and a construction contract for the building of the Satellite Lake Cumberland Technical Center and canopies for Adair County High School and Adair County Middle Schools.

Both bids, after all bids examined by architect Gabe Jones of Sherman-Carter-Barnhart, were awarded to the second lowest bidder, for different reasons.

A spokesman at the Great Wooded South\'s School of Common Sense Science states that "although our forefathers often referred to Virginia Creeper as Five-leafed Poison Oak, our researchers have never encountered a proven case of someone being infected by it".
