Mary Knight writes to Jana Esch:

Ms. Esch--As a substitute teacher, I've occasionally run into the Grace Girls at ACES. If their music is as sweet as they are, Farmers Market 2 customers are in for as treat.

Can't vouch for that Guy named Sam, though.

LWC hosts school for future leaders of United Methodist Church

United Methodist License for Pastoral Ministry School draws 49 future church leaders to Lindsey Wilson College, Columbia/Adair County, for seven days in June, 2014

By Duane Bonifer

COLUMBIA, KY- The future of The United Methodist Church is filled with enthusiasm and energy. That was one of the feelings an observer took away from this year's United Methodist License for Pastoral Ministry School, held June 1-7, 2014, at Lindsey Wilson College.

The school, sponsored by the Kentucky Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church, certifies laypersons to present sacraments in their assigned United Methodist churches. For some of the students, the school will enable them to have expanded responsibilities in their home church; for other students, the school is a step on eventually becoming pastor of a church. Students spent nearly 12 hours a day in classes and worship services.

Question: Playground equipment at Jim Blair Center

Jamie Isabelle writes:
I am wondering why the playground equipment, that was moved to the Jim Blair Center, has not been put up. I think, its been there coming up on maybe close to a year, if not mistaken. It is summer time, many kids and families could be getting some use out of this if it was up. Some friends and I are going down there to walk in the evenings, and notice its still just setting there, with no one getting any use out of it. - Jamie Isabelle
Thanks for the question: It draws attention to the fact that Columbia's Parks & Recreation works on a very limited budget. The equipment was moved from Col. Casey/John Adair by volunteers. There may be a plan in place to erect the equipment at the new location. We'll be checking. But in the meantime, maybe some group will contact the Adair County Judge Executive's office at 270-384-4703 to help out. - CM

FRANKFORT, KY - Water temperatures are climbing into the upper 70s, sending channel catfish to rocky banks in reservoirs to spawn. June is one of the most productive months to fish for them.

"Channels like crevices to spawn such as rocky areas or stumpy areas," said Gerry Buynak, assistant director of fisheries for Kentucky Fish and Wildlife. "They like protecting their eggs in those crevices. Catfish are susceptible to bank anglers."
