Trailer may have been source of four grass fires on KY 704

Forty receive GED High Diplomas; 17 NCRC recognition

The Adair County Adult Education Center award 40 GED high school diplomas and 17 National Career Read Certificates in ceremonies last night, Thursday, February 27, 2014, at Lindsey Wilson Colleges Hodge Center.

The 40 completed requirements between July 1 and December 31, 2013, almost doubling the pace for the previous year, when 41 obtained diplomas in a 12 month period.

The graduates were welcomed by the center's dynamic director, LeAnna Bennett. Speakers were Dean Adams, Vice President for Student Services and Enrollment Management at Lindsey Wilson College; and April Russell, Program for Adair County, Casey County, and McCreary County Adult Education.

Adair County School District

The Adair County Elementary School Academic Team started their quest for a District Title this week as they compete in District Governor's Cup Competition being hosted by Metcalfe County Elementary School.

Folks in these parts are very familiar with how great the Adair County High School Academic Team has been for years. But I think people forget that success doesn't happen overnight. Many of the students currently on the ACHS Academic Team have competed for years starting in elementary school.

News from Governor Steve Beshear's Communications Office

FRANKFORT, KY - Governor Steve Beshear today announced that the Maker's Mark Distillery plans to expand its operations at its National Historic Landmark distillery in Loretto.

Maker's Mark will create a replica of its existing stills and add new barrel warehouses and other infrastructure improvements. The nearly $70 million project will result in the hiring of 30 additional workers.

The Adair County Indians defeated the Marion County Knights 61-60 last night in the first round of the boys 20th district tournament at The Robey Dome in Lebanon. Senior forward Ty Bennett connected on a three pointer as time expired giving the Indians their 17th win of the season. The Knights closed out their year with a 19-8 record.

FRANKFORT, KY - The cold, muddy water coursing through many rivers in Kentucky right now brings another round of dread in anglers. This situation seems depressing, but for anglers with level 10 cabin fever after this long, dark winter, it is good news.

When the rivers clear and stabilize, the sauger and walleye fishing will take off downstream of Green River Lake, Lake Cumberland, Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley.
