Jeana Pike is FPS coach

The Future Problem Solving Team and Writing Composition portions of the competition were held this past Tuesday, February 25th . Jeana Pike, the Future Problem Solving Coach, when asked to explain what Future Problem Solving is actually had this to say: "As future leaders of the 21st century global society, the development of skills such as goal-setting, problem-solving and sound decision-making will be needed. These skill competencies will make students better able to solve real-life problems and enhance civic participation," She went on to talk about this year's team. "The Adair County Elementary Future Problem Solving Team has been working hard during after-school practices to improve such skills as they have focused on research, problem solving and communication skills. Being on the Future Problem Solving (FPS) Team requires investigation, ingenuity, and creativity, as well as cooperative group work. Each year, students on the elementary FPS team have the foundation started in learning about FPS as they learn a six-step problem solving model. Students are given 90 minutes to complete an entire booklet using the six-step process on a topic like "Desertification", which is the topic for this year's District Governor's Cup Competition."

Mrs. Pike is also the coach for the Composition students who participate in on-demand writing activities consistent with Kentucky Writing Standards. When asked about the Composition portion of this week's event Coach Pike stated: "Students at the elementary level are asked to write a letter or an article. The Composition prompt provides information that allows the student to write a well-developed piece. In the Elementary division, students must complete the on-demand writing within 45 minutes. We pick our best writers for this competition!"

Lisa Newell-Hare is Quick Recall Coah

Lisa Newell-Hare is the Quick Recall Coach and her students will compete tomorrow, Saturday, February 25th at Metcalfe County Intermediate School starting at 9:00 am. Coach Newell-Hare is very excited about this year's prospects. The results will be announced for all areas of the event late Saturday afternoon. We will relay the final winners in all areas Monday with a picture of these super kids!

We look forward to hearing about these students and their successes in the realm of Academic competition for years to come. This is where their journey begins. Good Luck to you all!
