Elizabeth Holmes Burton, Adair Co., KY (1925-2014)

She was a member of a large, highly regarded Adair County Family. She was a native of Champaign County, IL and a resident of Adair County at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Leslie & Clarice Goodin Holmes. She attended the Bearwallow United Methodist Church, was a seamstress and a homemaker.

162,000 Kentuckians enrolled in health insurance through kynect

Private health plans make up 25 percent of enrollments

FRANKFORT, KY - Signups for affordable health insurance are not only going strong in the Commonwealth, they are accelerating. More than 162,000 Kentuckians are now enrolled in new health coverage, or an average of 1,500 per day. That's even faster than the initial rate last fall of 1,000 signups per day.

He was a native of Russell County, KY and a resident of the county at the time of his death. He was the son of the late Elzie & Clutha Popplewell Fox. 10-digit dialing mandatory in 270 area code Feb. 1, 2014

Two Weeks to 10-digit Dialing in Western Kentucky - PSC urges area code 270 residents to complete preparations

Everybody who works or lives in area code 270 has only two weeks left to get into the habit of making 10-digit local calls.

"If you still need to update the automatic dialing in your telephone, computer, fax machine or other telecommunications devices, now is the time to do it," Kentucky Public Service Commission Chairman David Armstrong said. "The end of seven-digit local calling in area code 270 is almost here."

First meeting of year for Adair Co. Democratic Womens Club

Scholarship, election year strategizing, membership drive top agenda items

The Adair County Democratic Women's Club will hold it first meeting of the year at 6pmCT, February 3, 2014, at the C/AC Chamber Building basement, 201 Burkesville Street, Columbia, KY. We will be appointing a committee to review the applications for the Bernice Flowers Scholarship. The deadline February 20, 2014. The U.S. Census Bureau reported today that in fall 2012, more than 50 million U.S. adults, or one in four, had obtained a professional certification, license or educational certificate apart from a postsecondary degree awarded by colleges and universities. This is the Census Bureau's first-ever report on this topic.

"We had approximately 30 residents who received help today," Lisa Greer, administrative assistant in the office of Adair County CJE Ann Melton, said yesterday, Thursday, January 16, 2014, just before closing time.

Early morning accidents reported because of black ice

Snow also covers ground in much of Adair County, other places in the 7-County area and beyond

It's is slick on the roads this morning. I've just driven KY 55 from Campbellsville to the WAVE studio and saw one non-injury accident along the way, and we've received word of another accident on KY 88 in Green County.

Black ice is a factor. If you have to drive, use extreme caution in the early hours this morning, and later in the day when you an expect patches of black ice even on some main roads.
