Poetry by W.M Feese Jr. - The way it was: Saturday Night

The way it was: Saturday Night
by the poet, W.M. Feese, Jr
We'd park on the Square, cruise up Jamestown Hill
Go around the Jim Dandy Drive-In
Head back toward town and Circle the "R"
Then back to the Square again

Sometimes we talked to the opposite sex
We thought we were in our prime
A continuous jouney each Saturday Night
With little else to do with our time

Everyone knows what's going on
Some things are hard to live down
So goes the lives of simple folks
Who live in a small country town

The things we say and things we do
May not at times be always right.
But I thank the Lord most every day
For a small town on Saturday night
By W.M. Feese, Jr

Letter: Memories of Burton Ridge

Linda Tiller writes:
Tisha: Thanks so much for sharing this photo of a place that is very special to me. Lydia Tiller and Will Rich had many happy hours out in that yard. It never got too hot or to cold to chase puppies and kittens, build snowmen or simply watch the cars go by. Time goes by so fast. Cherish each moment. I love to tell folks I am from Burton Ridge. Weather report & prognostication from north of the Green River

The sun is low wattage up there

An expat Russell Countian reporting from the land of neareternal frost
With five inches of snow on the ground and a low wattage Yankee sun casting little light and less warmth - earlier this morning, the temperature had to look heavenward to see zero - it's evident winter will soon arrive up here north of the Green River. - An expat Russell Countian reporting from the land of neareternal frost
Thanks, expat - But it's not much better in here in paradise. Some joker has fiddled with the thermometer and's about as nigh nothing as it gets in Russell County. - CM

Larry Smith: It's cold and there's ice - use common sense

By Larry Smith, 99.9 FM the Big Dawg; 92.7 FM the WAVE

It's cold outside - 4 degrees outside The WAVE Studio atop Radio Hill, Columbia/Russell Springs. And the wind chill (goober: windshield) factor today will be 4 degrees all day, we're hearing.

It's a common or uncommon sense day: Use common sense and you stand a better chance of being ok. Travel between Columbia and Campbellsville is good, but there is patchy ice in some places. Back roads and some city streets in the area another thing. Many of them are treacherous.

As we've been announcing on the WAVE and Big Dawg: There are a number of school closings in the area: Adair County; Campbellsville Independent, Kentucky Christian Academy, and Taylor County; Green County, and Russell County Schools are all closed because of the weather.

Remember to do some good in the neighborhood today. Check on neighbors, particularly the elderly. And stay tuned to the WAVE and the Big Dawg - for the latest. - Larry Smith
