Dr. Roger D. Smith, DMD calls for point of order

Comments re article 64034 Letter Wants information about sealed bid Roger D SmithDMD writes:
Dear Ed: I need a "Point of Order" on the Industrial Land. It was explained to me a few years ago that the land on Campbellsville Rd. was by restriction to be only used for industrial purposes. Have the numerous restrictions on this property been eased or is this usage an exception to rule? - Roger D SmithDMD
Thanks, Dr. Smith - I don't know, but I will ask my associate, Stanley, for a higher opinion. And we'll put the question out there, maybe someone who knows the bylaws better than we can answer the question. One thing I believe though, - and this is my personal opinion - leasing of the cropland has been a super great thing, from a pragmatic standpoint. The income has provided most of the revenue the Economic Development Authority has had available the past few years. - ED

Question about: Invitation to bid

Victoria Pike writes:
I am at a loss here since I have been in farming mode for the past two weeks and haven't had much else on my mind but when was it decided that the land would be put up to the highest sealed bidder? Spectacular literature: by Cameron Campbell and Junior Feese

Billy Joe Fudge writes:
Columbia Magazine has been graced this day with two spectacular pieces of literature. Cameron's challenge to us to live beyond the land of mere existence and Junior's Christmas wish for us to be jolly, happy and merry this Christmas are excellence in literature. One a speech and the other a song, both packed with peaceful, calm advice that comes from hearts full of caring concern for the well-being of others.

Great literature should be spoken aloud, so do yourself a favor and read both aloud, today.

Remembering Larry Stokes: Outdoorsman, speaker for his faith

Roger D Smith DMD writes:
Dear Ed: This weekend was marred with the tragedy of two hunters dying in pursuit of doing something that they loved. I knew Larry Stokes better than I did Mr. Wethington but I do know they enjoyed the out of doors, especially duck hunting.

I met Larry a few years ago on a hunting trip and discovered that he was a great guy, fun to be around, and a good hunter. In talking with a mutual friend today I discovered that Larry was a five year surviver of pancreatic cancer, a strong member of his church, and often a speaker for his faith.

I had not seen Larry for some time, but I was greatly saddened to hear of his passing. - Roger D Smith DMD

Valedictory address by Cameron Michael Campbell
Delivered at Ransdell Chapel, Campbellsville University, December 13, 2013

It was Oscar Wilde who said, "To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all." What is the difference in existing and living? The difference is so wide, it could be compared to a chasm that cannot be crossed. But the good news is it can be crossed, and that chasm is crossed from the land of existence to the land of living with the bridge of willpower.

Poetry by W.M. Feese, Jr.: Tis the season to be jolly

Tis the season to be jolly
Poetry by W.M. Feese, Jr.
Tis the season to be jolly
Oh, how I wish for all to be
I wish for each a happy Christmas
And lots of presents under their tree

This time of year is oh so pleasant
Filled with happiness and joy
In visions now I oft remember
A time when I was just a boy

A boy whose life was filled with wonder
Who longed for just a simple toy
An Erector Set or B-B gun
Just a simple thing to enjoy

But, now hose days are just a memory
A memory of old times gone by
And as those thoughts become reality
One can only reminisce and sigh

I'm thinking now how life has changed me
How my life has come to be
Each day my goal is to be faithful
To my Lord and family

Tis the season to be jolly
Oh, how I wish everyone could be
My one desire for each this Christmas
Is for all to be Happy, Happy, Happy

Merry Christmas to all
- W. M. Feese, Jr.

CJE Ann Melton gives background for any sale of county property

County was interested in selling the old Hutchison Hardware garage building to the county, but it would have had to be appraised first, then advertised for bids.

From Ann Melton, Adair County Judge Executive

Ed, I really would have thought that my dear cousin Ralph knew the process for selling real estate owned by government entities.

But here is a little background on what actually occurred. Mayor Pat Bell asked me a few years ago if the County would be interested in selling the property adjacent to City Hall.
