Epicurean Kentuckian: Exaggerated onions from up in Taylor Co.

2013-10-22 - Fortune Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Linda bought this small pumpkin sized onion from the Amish produce stand near Campbellsville University today. He said it is a "Candy" onion. The dollar bill is there for size reference - it's six inches long, and while it won't buy much, it comes in handy as a measuring stick. The onion should make three whopping onion with mayo on white bread sandwiches, with enough left over to season a small stew. -EK

A new to Columbia preservation makes grand statement: As a brand new member of this wonderful community, one of the first things we discovered as we came here was the absolutely enthralling Square - MARLENE HAMBY

By Marlene Hamby
Commentary

Regarding the comment from Mr. McQueary's solution to condemn and tear down the old buildings from Columbia's square:

He obviously has no understanding that every time an historic (old, and in disrepair) building or home is torn down, there are only fewer left - never more.

Affordable Healthcare Act: Call 1-800-318-2596
Click on headline for complete story/with a link to story on Chicken Nuggets and CM First Rant of the Day

Kentucky's super smooth roll out of KyNect.com had so few problems, it's hard to imagine that out there in tech-impaired Rest of America (states w/o a Governor Steve Beshear or second best to him), the inauguration of Affordable Health Care has been a bit bumpy, But despite those problems, the savings in cost has been remarkable for even those outlanders, when they persevere a few hours.

The President is getting the brunt of the attention for the introductory and momentary problems for the historic improvement in Health Care delivery. The Atlantic is even taunting him - sort of - as (Click to:) Barack Obama, Insurance Salesman in Chief in a story subtitled: "The president finally acknowledged the deep problems with Healthcare.gov, but rather that explain or dwell on them, he urged Americans to keep trying."

Adam Stearman was actually flown to UL hospital, family reports

By Ed Waggener

Prominent Greensburg attorney Adam Stearman, 34, son of Columbia's Bonnie Davenport and step son of Bro. Bill Davenport, suffered very serious injuries in the two vehicle collision on KY 70 in Casey County last week, far greater than indicated in the brief CM item posted on Thursday, October 17, 2013, immediately following the accident.

Rev. Davenport wrote us on Monday, October 21, 2013 that there is much more to the story.

"Adam was not treated and released from the Taylor County Hospital," he writes. "Adam was flown by jet to Uof L Medical Center. He is still in very serious condition.

"It will be a slow recovery with multiple surgeries," Bro. Davenport wrote, for the family, adding, "Many people assumed by this report that it was just a little fender bender. Thanks for giving correction to this report."
