Click on headline for accompanying photo(s)

By Jan Royse

Band season triggered memories for my Mom of her days in band at Columbia High School. She remembered she had a photo of the Columbia High School Band and asked me to send it to you to share. She has a note on the back of the photo that it is the band from 1939-1940, but she says it is actually thru 1942. I have attached a copy of the back of the photo as well. Maybe your viewers can identify members.

My Mom, Dimple Howell (Willis) is seated on the far right of the photo, first chair. My Dad, Edward "Edgie" Howell, is standing, back row, third from right side of the photo.

Its obvious that Band has always been a very important part of our schools. We hope everyone enjoys this! Thanks! - Jan Royse, General Manager WHVE-FM and WVLC-FM, Shoreline Communications, Inc, Columbia, KY 42728

Daryl Branham - The picture was taken behind the old M & W Mill, looking out over the old Water Plant.
Ofc. Joshua Brockman - Hey Ed , looks like the old Columbia water plant just off Water Works Street.
Sandra Denton - It's locate on Waterworks Road
Donald Hare - This is Water Works Street, behind the hospital. looking toward Lee Stephens shop from the old Columbia Water Plant.
Lewis Jessee - This is on the banks of the mighty Russell Creek. The brick structure and fenced in pond were part of the former Columbia water works. the street comes out at the feed mill near the Fairgrounds and the far end meets the street at Westlake Hospital.
Fredia Melton - Old water plant on Water Works Street in Adair County in Columbia, KY.
Adam Montgomery - The photo is just past the old water treatment plant just off Short Street showing the Stephens Building.
Old Coddger - It was made half way over the hill from M&W Milling to the old Columbia Utilities Water Treatment Plant (the corner of the new pump house in lower right hand corner of pic). The dry tank is the old sludge holding pond. The white fence in the background is MLS property. I guess Columbia would be a little closer than Ozark.
Sharon Pickett - The old water treatment facility on Water Works Street
Chris Reeder - The old Water Treatment Plant? Just a guess
Ron at Mobilty Vans - Looks to be behind Westlake hospital and right behind. the old water plant.
Ed Streeval - It is looking from the old water treatment plant toward Lee Stephens' shop on Water Works Street.

Angie Pierce: Louisville RMH was closest to Kosair NICU for us

We're encouraging each individual who reads our family's personal story to donate a few items for the Ronald McDonald House collection drive this week. The donated items are greatly appreciated, as so many families need the basic necessities they would normally have at their own homes. My family always contributes to this annual collection drive. We have already bought our items for this year's drive, and are ready to donate them this Thursday, October 24th. We will also be contributing the drink tabs that we have collected with our family and friends. - ANGIE PIERCE
The 6th Annual Ronald McDonald House wish List Donation Drive is being held held 3pm-6pmCT, Thursday, October 24, 2013, at the Chamber of Commerce, 201 Burkesville Street, back parking lot. WISH LIST

By Angie Pierce

With the Ronald McDonald House collection drive being later this week, I wanted to share my family's personal story with the Ronald McDonald House of Louisville. Our eight year old daughter, Shelbie, a third grader at ACES, was born extremely premature on November 22, 2004 in Louisville. She was born 3 1/2 months early, and the doctors told my husband and I that she would be in the hospital for several months. Shelbie weighed less than two pounds at birth, and her lungs were so underdeveloped that she was placed on a ventilator for the first seven weeks of her life.
