Barbara Lou Hicks Hurt, age 64 of Summer Shade, KY, died Sunday, October 20, 2013 at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, TN.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at 2pmCT, at the McMurtrey Funeral Home, 2232 Summer Shade Road, Summer Shade, KY. Burial will follow at Beaumont Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, October 21, 2013, after 2pmCT, at the funeral home.



She was a daughter of the late Ralph and Luzadie Hicks. She was a housewife and of the Baptist Faith.

She is survived by her husband Darrell Gene Hurt, and the following:
  • One son: Ricky Darrell Hurt, Summer Shade, KY

  • One granddaughter: Aylia Renee Hurt, Summer Shade, KY

  • One great granddaughter: Akaylia Renee Hurt

  • Four brothers: Bobby (Sue) Hicks, Louie (Karen) Hicks, Paul (Sondra) Hicks and Roger (Charity) Hicks all of Indiana

  • Four sisters: Frances (Ed) Adkins, Temple Hill, KY; Sheila (Mike) Wix, Indiana, Nita (Steve) Campbell, Prestonsburg, KY; and Sylvia Davidson, Glasgow, KY.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Hicks.

McMurtrey Funeral Home, 2232 Summer Shade Road, Summer Shade, KY, in charge of arrangements.
