We had a marvelous discussion at the Adair County Public Library with author Janna McMahan via Skype tonight during our "Have You Finished it Yet?" Book Club meeting. Her book "Calling Home", was set in South Central Kentucky and mentions such places as Green River, Adair and Green Counties.

A Taylor County native who now resides in Columbia, South Carolina, she has first hand knowledge of this area as well as our culture. Wow, what a lovely, talented lady!

Those in attendance were Lucille Lemmon, Aleina Milligan, Anita Riddle, Ernestine Bennett, Jewel Kimbler, Kathy Hunt, Roberta Peterson, Mary Knight, Ginger Swift, LeeAnn Jessee, Beth Grant, Wanda McGaha, Janna McMahan and Mary Sharpe was in attendance but not shown in photo.

Taylor County certified as KY Work Ready in Progress community

Taylor is one three counties, including Logan and Rowan Counties, in lastest named by Gov. Steve Beshear to the status. In the 7-County Area, Russell and Adair Counties had already achieved the certification.

FRANKFORT, KY (Aug. 15, 2013) - Governor Steve Beshear announced today that Logan, Rowan and Taylor counties have been certified as Kentucky Work Ready Communities in Progress.

The Kentucky Work Ready Communities certification program from the Kentucky Workforce Investment Board (KWIB) and the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet assures employers that a local workforce has the talent and skills necessary to staff existing jobs and to master the innovative technologies new jobs will require.

Opal Feese, Adair County, KY (1920-2013)

She was the oldest living member of the Egypt Christian Church at the time of her death. She was the matriarch of a large, highly regarded Adair County, KY, family. She was a native of Adair County, KY and a resident of the county at the time of her death. She was the widow Gordon Feese. She leaves 52 direct living descendants spanning three generations and four step descendants

Mike Watson: Letter from Adair Soldier in the Philippines, 1900

The following letter was printed in the Adair County News, 13 June 1900. The letter, dated 16 April 1900, was written by Mont White, of Adair County, who was then stationed at "Bacon", on the Philippine Islands. His sentiments about home-town news is the same as today. We love town, county and state and wait anxiously for news in digital or hard copy format.

"Editor of News:--As I have just received some of my home papers which I was glad to get, I have concluded to write a few lines to my friends, thinking that they will be glad to l earn that I am still living.

Edward Ray Wethington, Taylor County, KY (1946-2013)

He was retired from the United States Air Force after serving 27 years for his county and a member of the St. Bernard Catholic Church

Edward Ray Wethington of Campbellsville, KY passed away Wednesday August 14, 2013 at the Taylor Regional Hospital, Campbellsville, KY. He was 67. Cremation rites honored by McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville Street, Liberty, KY. A private family service will be held at a later date.

Pulaski Deputy faces charge from 2008 Russell Co., KY incident

Indictment alleges excessive force results in bodily injury to to victim identified only as "C.F."

WASHINGTON, DC - United States Attorney for the Western District of Kentucky David J. Hale and Acting Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division Jocelyn Samuels announced that Steven Molen, a Sheriff's Deputy with the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office, was indicted by a federal grand jury yesterday on one count of violating the civil rights of a victim by using excessive force in August 2008.

KSP arrests alleged shoplifter after vehicle, foot pursuit

Wendell G. Polston, Russell County, KY (1944-2013)

Portion of Little Cake Road will be closed Mon., Aug. 19, 2013

The Adair County Road Department will have a portion of Little Cake Road closed Monday, August 19, 2013 due to road construction. The road will be closed between the following two points:
Point A: Purdy Church off Highway 206, will be closed at 1911 Little Cake Road (Billy and Hilda Smith's)
Point B: Neatsville off Hwy 206, it will be closed at 2799 Little Cake Road (Little Cake Christian Church).
Please use extreme caution when traveling any portion of Little Cake Road, due to a higher volume of traffic from heavy equipment and trucks traveling the road during construction. The Adair County Road Department apologizes for any inconvenience to visitors and residents impacted by this temporary closure. We appreciate your patience and cooperation. Campbellsville Police make stolen vehicle arrest after collision

Car driven by Taylor Boulevard had been entered as stolen out of California. Driver Incident occurs at intersection of Lowell Avenue and Birdwood Avenue

A Wednesday August 14, 2013 at approximately 10:31pmET Campbellsville Police responded to a report of a two vehicle accident located at the intersection of Lowell Avenue and Birdwood Avenue.

During the course of the investigation, officers discovered a silver Hyundai Sante Fe was entered as a stolen vehicle out of California. The vehicle was driven by Layna Ray Starr Dupont of 308 Taylor Blvd. Campbellsvile, KY. Dupont was transported to Taylor County Regional Hospita by Taylor County EMS where she was treated and released for minor injuries.

Federal officials confirm gray wolf taken in Hart County, KY

How the wolf found its way to a Munfordville hay ridge at daybreak in March remains a mystery. Wolves have been gone from the state since the mid-1800s.

Adair County Boys Golf (V/JV) vs. Russell County High School. Tee off at 3:15pmCT, Thursday, August 15, 2013, at Lakewood Country Club, 4214 Highway 379, Russell Springs, KY.

Tuesday August 13, 2013 ACHS boys golf team travelled to Green County to take on the Dragons. Leading the way for Adair County was Austin Cundiff with a 37.

Riley Grant and Daniel Rarey both shot a 38, Tanner Garmon 39 and Blake Maupin rounded out the top five with a 451. Team total was a 152 and Green County shot a team total of 188 which brings the Indians record to a 4-0.

The JV team was led by Zach Pyles, Jamison Miller and Jacob Keltner each firing a 47. Joseph Farmer ended up with a 49 for a team total of 191 to beat Green County\'s JV team which shot a 215.

I'm very proud of all of the players. It was the first time to have four scores in the 30\'s from the varsity and it was the JV\'s first time to have four scores in the 40\'s. I know we are on the right track because because it is reflected in the scores. This was a total team win today. - Chris Lewis

Robbie Harmon, Adair DPP, reports good enrollment figures

Total enrollment this year is 2,684, up from 2,543 at a comparable time one year ago, the Director of Pupil Personnel (DPP) says, but cautions that final figures for this year have some settling to do. Still, at this time the numbers give reason for optimism

Preliminary figures for enrollment in Adair County Schools are very encouraging, according to figures obtained from Director of Pupil Personnel Robbie Harmon.

Total enrollment this year is 2,684, up from 2,543 at a comparable time one year ago.

Preliminary 2013 enrollment figures for the four Adair County Schools are:
  • Adair County High School - 779
  • Adair County Primary Center - 657
  • Adair County Elementary School - 638
  • Adair County Middle School - 610
  • TOTAL ENROLLMENT - 2684
Last year, with a different configuration, there were 759 in Adair County High School, 601 at Adair County Elementary, 415 at Colonel William Casey Elementary School, 401 at Adair County Middle School, and 267 at John Adair Intermediate School for a total at the main campus of 2,543.

One injured in 2 vehicle crash near Summersville, KY

News from Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY

SUMMERSVILLE, KY - Trooper Jonathan Houk is investigating a collision that occurred on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at approximately 5:05pmCT, 4 miles west of Summersville. KY, on Montgomery Mill Road. 26 year old Michael Lee of Greensburg was operating a 2004 Ford traveling eastbound on Montgomery Mill Road when he struck a 2005 Chevrolet head on.

The 2005 Chevrolet was operated by 42 year old Margaret Garr, also of Greensburg. Lee was belted and not injured. Garr was not belted and was transported to the Jane Todd Hospital where she was treated and released for minor injuries. - TPR CLINT WALKER

Study says CU has $101 million impact on Taylor economy

Younger & Associates study says University supports a total of 1,453 jobs in Taylor County, accounting for 15.7 percent of the wages paid in Taylor County.

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - Campbellsville University has a total economic impact from its operations of $101 million in Taylor County, according to a new study recently completed by Younger and Associates of Jackson, TN.

The $101 million is a measure of the total dollar value that flows through the Campbellsville-Taylor County economy because of the operations of Campbellsville University.
